Why do some women ruin their looks with tattoos?

Anonymous
If we are making sweeping judgements of people based on harmless personal choice, it’s safe to say that the women on here who hate tattoos and declare people with tattoos insane or insecure are the most unhappy, unpleasant, judgmental, pathetic people on earth. Leave people alone, do your own thing and stop diagnosing people based on their choices. Sad.

Why would someone waste their time posting inane questions on DCUM? Oh, because they get off on being offensive.

Sure, because we all know women are all so secure in their looks & don’t care what other people think.

Usually women who get visible tattoos, especially on their upper body, are doing so because they perceive they don't have looks to ruin and want something to call attention away from looks.

Wrong. I am a pretty woman and have a tattoo on my arm. It actually makes people look at me more. I was walking with my boss downtown today and a woman stopped me to tell me that I was really pretty. I just looked at my boss and said, I never get used to this. I say this because I am not delusional about my looks.

When I got my tattoo, which looks like henna, it just added to the mystique.

This. It's really bizarre actually.

Trust and believe that no one who has visible tattoos cares what pearl clutchers think.

Uh, no. I have a casual friend who is covered in tattoos, including shoulder and neck tats. She thinks she's an absolute goddess.

Freedom of association very good.

Prole behavior.

Don't confuse with men who are so high status that it doesn't take them down to engage in prole behavior.

As a young man from the south the culture clash I thought I would experience in going to an ivy league school was quite adaptable..I love Yankee girlls and found great similarities in our family values. A degree in finance was the name of the game..or a degree in nursing for some friends...but on weekends it was Saks fifth avenue and Chanel and yes trying to fit in by looking good..but

you didn't dare portend to even consider a tattoo..I'm homely, humble and conservative..and greatly thank you Jesus a Christian..amongst true Christians it's a sign of carnality...and following herd trends of the world...The Almighty made the body beautiful..it cannot be improved on by stupid graffiti

I think it suits some people, and there is a very wide scope of tattoos, from awful and cheesy to beautiful and artistic. I personally love ladies who have that whole "retro alternative pinup" look with tattoos. Could never pull it off, but they look great.

Multiple studies demonstrated a link between tattooing and psychopathology--including self destructive behavior.

(Psychopathology = scientific study of mental illness or disorder.)

Google: The psychology of tattoos.

Are you a boomer? I’m not trying to be rude. I’m a nurse and I see lots of naked people I’ve noticed that boomers with tattoos might fall into lower SES, maybe rougher life style. Less so Gen-Xers. The younger generations are more like to have tattoos and those with tattoos do not fit into any specific demographic.

I just think they make the person look so sad. I am guessing they are somehow therapeutic for the people who get them.

Certainly a better choice than alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, etc.
