Is it nuts to be prepping for a food shortage?

So, we ate the prep stuff. It was pretty good. No need to not prep. You n ever know what your personal crisis will be.

Agreed. I think it's the word "prep" that's making folks get all spun up as if it automatically makes them a crazy conspiracy theorist.

It doesn't. Look at this way: If you stay ready, you don't have to get ready.

You're in California but everyone else is here....

Since people don’t want to help, here’s what I’ve prepped recently:

Rice, honey, canned tuna, condiments, dried beans, cans of kidney beans, chickpeas, cannelloni beans, corn, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, better than bouillon, spices, pasta sauce, pasta, orzo, lentils, and farro

I don’t think a bit of prepping is crazy at all, but just stockpiling food is not prepping. Consider all needs. for different scenarios. Realistic to anticipate threats to Water supply, electric grid, and scenarios like radiation, long duration extreme temps, flooding, etc.. I got me a radiation suit like the military, for example.

While Putin is going for world hunger we should be ok. Not saying prices will drop just that there is enough.

If the GOP win in 2024 then all bets are off. We will have bread lines. We will have shortages they will do this to control the masses. I am not wrong they have written this down.

And this is an example of the kind of thing that is a "majority" opinion on DCUM, but is not normal. It is delusional.

I seriously doubt that's a majority opinion.

You must not read many DCUM threads...

You are all insane.

Speak for yourself.

I do. And I’m speaking as the NOT crazy one here, honey!

Do you really, actually think, in your little hamster wheel trumper brain, that we’re going to *run out of food*? Seriously????

It’s ok, darling. The adults are in charge, and the President (the current one. I mean. The one you don’t like) isn’t going to let the country run out of food.

You all sound like a paranoid nutters, the whole lot of you on this thread. All of you need intensive mental health therapy in a secure facility where you cannot leave.

We can't even figure out how to stop 20-year-old pimple-faced active shooters. Let that sink in.

Not when politicians demand cops to stand down, rather than do what they were trained to do (stop the killers).

Or when they're so cowardly that they stand down all by themselves, you mean, no politicians required? Cowards.

Didn’t you see the recently released videos of the hallway outside the Uvalde classroom??? You’d see a white man wearing a black polo shirt with his hands up, literary blocking cops wanting to go into the classroom. Who the hell is that man preventing cops from getting to the children? Open your eyeballs, people.

Haven’t heard any media asking who he was.

I am off this week and spent the last two days purchasing household supplies and canned goods to stock. I put two storage shelves up in my garage and am considering returning to the store to buy more items today. The best-case scenario is that I won't need the stuff and will donate it to a food bank. I would rather be overprepared than under.

If China is dumb enough to do that, they will collapse from within, due to the masses there starving and having enough of their corrupt government.

Yeah China is watching us self destruct - why would Ang of our enemies actually fight us?!!! Omg they are prob making popcorn to watch us! Internal strife is the most destructive there is - nothing a foreign power can do to you worse than internal strife.

In terms of prepping - stockpiling food is not effective prepping sorry.

Personally if there's full on prep involved, I'd rather go fast than to manage the aftermath which is sure to be extreme. Food is likely the least of your concerns!

Anxiety meds would be what you should stockpile. Booze also!

I think it’s probably better to spend time learning to garden and grow. Then learn how to cook. Cans expire. And rodents are remarkably good at their jobs. This is from experience. There is “just so long” food can be kept and waste is expensive. I have even thrown out MREs (I camp a lot).

then again, everyone needs a hobby! and anything can be fun

It's a bit extreme but you should have some food and provisions for at least a week. IN 2016 I was stuck in my house because of snow where they didn't get to our neighborhood for that long. I've also been stuck inside that long, alone sick with Covid. I did fine both times but preppers are another paranoid level.

This thread started in 2022. Why were people expecting a food shortage in 2022?

Most people don't have enough land to be self sufficient. You need anywhere from 10 acres east of the Mississippi, to 1000 acres per person if in a desert environment with little water, depending on where you live.
One cannot live on a 1 acre vegetable garden and no livestock.
