Insurrection Hearings 6/9-6/23

What Liz Cheney said before she played the video of the interview is:

When a President fails to take the steps necessary to preserve our union, or worse, causes a constitutional crisis, we are at a moment of maximum danger for our Republic. Some in the White House took responsible steps to try to prevent January 6th. Others egged the President on. Others, who could have acted, refused to do so. In this case, the White House Counsel was so concerned about potentially lawless activity, that he threatened to resign, multiple times. That is exceedingly rare and exceedingly serious. It requires immediate attention, especially when the entire team threatens to resign. However, in the Trump White House, it was not exceedingly rare and it was not treated seriously. This is a clip of Jared Kushner, addressing multiple threats by White House Counsel Pat Cipollone and his team of White House lawyers to resign in the weeks before January 6th.

She was making a case where serious illegal activities being a common place with Trump and Co and cautions were dismissed with the above bolded context by Cheney.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Kushner was in a position to do something, to talk Trump around, to try to put a stop to everything. But he didn't. Because he's a lightweight and unpatriotic.

Did we ever expect anything from him but self-interest and lack of integrity? Both of them, him and Ivanka.

Kushner thought people dying of covid was FINE because they thought it would only kill Democrats.

THAT is the level of STUPID and AWFUL we're dealing with.

That’s awful, but I have seen people here express the same sentiment about conservatives dying from COVID.

No, you have not. What you've heard is people say that when those who willingly forego vaccinations and other mitigation measures succumb to the predictable results, it is sad but of their own doing. There is nothing we could do to stop them from running toward the void. And those happen to be mostly Trumpy people. Which is WHOLLY different from showing a malignant disregard for the lives of those who are trying to stay alive, but whose lives are deemed unworthy because they didn't vote for that brain-dead pustule.

+1 Kushner arbitraged the nation’s PPE during the first months when doctors and nurses were literally laying their lives on the line to help people. They were seizing and appropriating PPE ordered by hospitals and states and sending them to a national stockpile. They forcibly redistributed PPE ordered by blue states and sent it to red states. They were outbidding states on the runway and some of it ended up in private warehouses to be resold. The whole thing is extremely sketchy and should be investigated.

The January 6th Committee is doing their job. The US Capitol was attacked. Attacked. By people intended to stop the US Congress from doing their jobs. And the people who did the attacking were revved up and set in motion by a Big Lie and a group of malevolent loons who absolutely intended to overthrow the US government and keep Trump illegally in office. This is a Big F***ng Deal and the malevolent loons (Eastman, Powell, Flynn, Giuliani, Bannon, Stone and the top LooneyTune Trump himself) need to be held legally accountable for it. The current 30 second sound bite zeitgeist may make you tired of hearing about it, but accountability needs to happen. Or else our 250 year experiment in stable democracy and the peaceful transfer of power--unprecedented in human history---will not be so lucky next time when the malevolent are a little less loony and a little bit smarter.

I think Ivanka’s saying that she accepted Bart’s assertion that there was no election fraud is interesting. I would love to hear her response (under oath) to why she was at the “Stop the Steal” rally, supporting the Big Lie if that’s the case.

I tried watching, but it was super boring. Rehash of the same stuff. "Trump said innaccurate and dangerous stuff!" Yeah, I know, but why are we going back over this? He's gone. He's not even in public life anymore. He is banned from everything. Even pinterest.

Not in public life anymore? Are you living under a rock? He’s the most powerful person in the Republican Party and will almost certainly be their 2024 candidate. The current crop of candidates are all groveling at his knee to get his endorsement and trying to outgun one another to prove who is more loyal to him.

Damn. Has he ever publicly criticized Ivanka before?

She wasn’t too checked out to attend his rally.

Does it surprise anyone at all that he will turn on his children when it suits his purposes?

Baby girl was still in the game and hoping to get to stay in the White House.

Good question. Why was she at the rally and pressers if she didn't believe the election lie?

The video and timeline reminded me how long the violence went on that day. It was HOURS.

We've been criticizing the Uvalde police for taking what, 78 minutes?

How many minutes did Trump do nothing and allegedly celebrated what was happening?

Way more than that. All he had to do was say or tweet something from the White House, not confront a well armed psycho.

The President sent an armed militia to the Capitol to take over Congress and kill the Vice President.

That's what I learned last night.

It really is that simple.

Cheney was basically giving a prosecutor’s opening statement. She has five more televised hearings to prove her hypothesis. From why I’ve read in Proud Boys social media and texts this was very much planned. They were confronting police at the Capitol before Trump even finished his speech. The Capitol is a 30 minute walk from the Washington Monument. This was planned.
