That may have won a prize in 1979, but it isn’t going to now. Just no to condensed cream of anything soup

You scoff but you’d attack it like a starving Affenpinscher.

OMG

FWIW, I love zucchini casserole![b] And I also love the grape jelly & chili sauce meatballs[i].

Finally! I have two bags of leftover turkey meatballs in the freezer but am out of the good marinara sauce and have been idly wondering (and Googling) if I could make those grape jelly meatballs I've only ever had at church potlucks at home without needing a bunch of stuff I don't have. I was feeling secret shame as I read everyone judging them. At least now I'm not alone.

Oh no. Not all all they are TASTY. have been considering making them too.

Obvi the meatballs are not high quality- but the grape jelly sauce is magical.

Best: Those awesomely awful Rice Krispie treats with peanut butter and the melted chocolate on top

Let’s duke it out.

Best - Rotel with HOT sausage; Worst - a Jello dish

Dare you to try strawberry jello pretzel salad.

I was a skeptic, too.

This sounds like something I didn't know I needed.

Ha! I only eat what I bring and that’s it. Unless I’m going to a sit down dinner or lunch and or a catered/restaurant meal, I’m pretty much doing “stage eating” and putting a few things on my plate, pushing the food around then into the trash it goes. My expectation is never to have a full meal at office parties, block parties, birthday parties and most especially block parties.

I recognize I have food hang ups and yes, I will eat at restaurants.

Fun fact: I work for the health department.

If there is one thing we learned from Covid it is that most people who work in public health have anxiety issues and are very poor judges of risk.

What we actually learned is that unqualified internet nobodies have a knack for deluding themselves into believing they know better than the actual.experts.

Best: frozen ice cream cake

I used to bring a big frozen stouffers mac and cheese to be sure my kid had something to eat. Usually the first thing gone. I think it qualifies as best and worst at the same time. Now that my kid is in college, my friends know that I can actually cook.

So good! The salty pretzel crust is delicious with the cream cheese part. I made this for my kids last year and they loved it. I had it as a kid at all summer parties.

This is good- in theory. But is terrible at parties after sitting for more than 5 min. Then feta melts all over and then is a mess of warm watermelon in a white cloudy sauce

I’m a good snob and this is a solid choice. It is good Mac and cheese and actually made with a
Simple and natural ingredients list. I’d happily eat this vs some weird pot luck “homemade” version than probably involves a block of cream cheese, veleeta, condensed soup, or crushed crackers/chips

Same! I won't eat anything made by people with dogs or cats in their house.

Then you are:
1) wasteful; and
2) irrational.

If you are the one actually inspecting restaurants... you know the drill and you know that they are often worse than people's homes. But you probably aren't the one inspecting restaurants.

It's funny because between my stint in graduate school for public health AND my international travel, I am more casual about all food safety rules except around shellfish. I do NOT eat raw shellfish after taking a parasitology class. So, I would skip the raw oysters at a summer gathering, but would be happy with my deviled egg.

Anonymous wrote:How about just dessert. Do people actually eat the other stuff? even in the 80s it seemed like no one ate the food at a block party. Chips and dip, maybe. Cookies and brownies, definitely. Everything else just sat. Seems the same at the ones I attended in our neighborhood a few years ago.

Yes we all eat. Only the eating disorder mommies stand on the side with their Yeti full of wine

NP. I eat: in my own house before I walk out to the party, and yes, I do enjoy one serving of wine at the party. If I’m hungry later I might even eat again after the party. I’m zany that way.

Enjoy your warm pasta salad and communal queso dip. I’m really missing out.

+1. I always get sushi before the party, eat before joining the party, and might end up having a bowl of cereal or something if I’m hungry after the party is over. Just because I don’t eat from a communal trough does not mean that I have an eating disorder.

+2. I've seen you people with your cats jumping on the counter and your kids picking their noses and "helping" in the kitchen. No thanks.

This is same poster who trashes your homemade baked goods at Christmas. Always brings up the cat. PP - how about you just stay home from these gatherings? It is clear that you get nothing from them.

Please don't tarnish the entire field. Fauci has ZERO public health education or experience. He is an internist who has been involved in clinical research on immunology.

Walensky should have the knowledge, but clearly doesn't have the will to stand up to the White House and Fauci.
