Why is my old neighbor mowing his lawn almost every day. Do I have recourse to report him?

What is happening here?

Yeah because it’s awfully annoying when it’s 7 Am and my neighbor is constantly turning it on and off every 2 minutes and killing his grass from over mowing his lawn. There’s nothing wrong with being upset about that.

Goodness gracious. Another OP is annoyed about their neighbor who doesn't mow enough and let's their grass get long before mowing. This OP is annoyed because her neighbor mows. Neighbors can't get away from b1tchy neighbors like these two OPs.

It's annoying, so be adult and learn to cope. If you have a problem, get noise canceling headphones. That's what they're for...people who can't figure out how to cope with other people's noise. Stop being an overstimulated child.

My neighbors have a bunch of little kids that pee on all the trees and run around yelling. I'll trade for a crotchety old guy who mows.

Bake him some cookies. Be a good human.

If it truly bothers you -> talk to him about it.

Reporting him would be cruel + extreme.

Let's say you did want to report him. Who do you call? The EPA? The local lawncare union?

I’d start with Department of Interior and have them connect me to someone at BLM

Most stupid post ever!

Did you misplace your sense of humor?

My burro came from the BLM. Maybe they can give one to the neighbor to eat his lawn. But then the OP would complain about the honking donkey.

It sounds like you need to report back to the office. Working from home is not for you.

Maybe he has alzheimers and forgets he just did it yesterday

Just yell as loud as you can, repeatedly and often, shut the F up! Over and over again until he stops.

He’ll get the message!

Maybe he'll call the police on you for harassing him. He's on his own property, mowing his lawn and perfectly within his legal rights to care for his property. You, on the other hand, would be a public nuisance, yelling obscenities and harassing a neighbor.

He probably has dementia. Use a white noise machine and practice compassion.

OP, and others who feel the same way about certain noises, there's a disorder called misophonia. I'm not sure what can be done about it other than soundproofing your workroom or using headphones or ear protection, but it's worth consulting your doctor. You do need help, but it's not the neighbors' problem.

Working from home is a privilege, especially if you do that outside in your serene yard, where you can hear almost everything. I work from home so I totally get it. But.....
Does he mow the same area every time?
Maybe he forgets and keep mowing everyday-habitual. Maybe he can't finish one spot so he covers the other spots the next day and the next and the next. By the time he finishes it, the other side regrows again. That can actually happen. Maybe he is retired and got plenty of time to slowly do the chores around his home.

What i am annoyed about is if you know that person is home all day, every day, and unemployed and don't leave the house and still that person mow the lawn as soon as you get home from work or finished working (if you are working from home), around 6pm/7pm, when you want some peace.

Are there any rules on this, I understand once or twice a week but almost every day is excessive.

He is retired probably age 60+

He finds your whining equally as annoying,!

I used to mow our lawn early around 9 am or in evening around 7 pm.

I guess that no one has ever told you this but be prepared for a shock: THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU! Repeat this every hour for the rest of your life.

Gas powered lawn mowers can be really loud. And mowing every day is absurd.

Not sure what you can do about it if it’s within times allowed by community and if it doesn’t break any db limits.

Personally, I think we should ban gas powered mowers and leaf blowers.

My husband uses an electric mower and I can barely hear it. Meanwhile the neighbor four houses down uses a gas powered one and it is super loud and annoying.

We take. Again, not very noisy. Neighbors use gas powered leaf blowers and it is loud and polluting.
