UMC suburban college student lied about background to become prestigious Rhodes Scholar

The incident happened in 2014, a year before she went to college. So she was in foster homes for one year. But she lied about the rest of her childhood, omitting apparently to tell them she went to a $30,000 a year private school and her mother was a radiologist. And of course the prosecutor dropped the charges against the mother and said they couldn't be proven. And the Rhodes Committee said her description of her injuries were inconsistent with the hospital records. Does that answer your question?

Omitting in an essay is not lying. FFS, didn’t they get her transcript from her HS. That’s some mental gymnastics saying Penn had no idea what HS she went to.

The multiple lies mainly. And the Rhodes Committee investigation found the hospital records did not match her alleged injuries.

We know that her mom was at the top of the stairs when she fell because her mom said she was.

We know she was in the ICU. Maybe she was not intubated but she was in ICU.

We know her mom did not take her to the hospital the school did.

Her “lies” do not negate those facts.

Right. So that should get her a Rhodes Scholarship? C'mon. Upon being questioned about the facts, and confronted with her inconsistencies, she and her attorney decided to withdraw from the scholarship.

I didn’t say she should get Scholarships for being abused but clearly being from a broken home is what Rhodes found impressed.

So your mom threw you down steps, did not render aid and you school sent you to the hospital and you were hospitalized for -1 month, but because you said you had broken bones but you didn’t … scholarship taken. That’s so f’ing petty.

I suspect the doctor mother is evil. This reminds me of Britney Spears and how she said her dad loved having control over someone as powerful as her.

With no real injuries to speak of she was probably in the psych unit but they protected that information because she was a minor. So “just in the hospital…” which she used to her advantage because she’s mentally I’ll but very smart.

Mom probably nut case also. Two of a kind.

This is awful, but that thought did cross my mind as well.

Bull.

It's true. The issue isn't so much her manipulations with her less than a year in FC & getting into Penn, she continued the story with her Rhodes application. And by then she had changed her last name.

Lying on you application to college and for selection to the highly coveted Rhodes Scholarship is not a petty thing. And where's the evidence the mom "threw her down the stairs"? The prosecutor who investigated it was unable to come to that conclusion.

There is no reason to impune the kid who is being destroyed by older adults trying to protect either U Penn or the abusive mother.

Funny how the people who actually go to Penn seem to have a very different take than most of the people here.

Whole lotta bootlickers on DCUM.

Reddit is the same place that happily hosted a bunch of incel and upskirt subreddits until recently. It is not a place on the side of right.

Her mother said it. She claims her daughter pulled away and fell. But… then why didn’t she take her to a doctor? Why did the school have to take her to the hospital?

right. fell three steps on a padded stairway.
And what does that have to do with lying about being low-income and first generation?
UPenn was so proud of her until the anonymous tip.
