Just curious about what others are thinking about home values. We bought in 2005 for 650K. I think it's worth about the same, maybe 670K. Arlington
We bought a year ago in Columbia for 415k, I think we could probably get that for it now, maybe even 420k.

If you bought in 2005, you are probably right that your house hasn't increased in value. 2005 is generally considered the peak of the market, and values have declined quite a bit since then. On a positive note, at least you didn't lose equity.
We bought in 1999 in DC and that house ran up to astronomical heights so we sold in 2008 just when the economy began to really fail in order to realize the cash. Don't think it is possible for our buyers to gain the type of equity. Timing. |
We bought in Montgomery County for under $200k in 2000. At the height of the market, the house was valued at $525k but is now about $400k.
The year 2000 for $285k. Similar houses selling for $500k now. It was more a few years ago. Lower Montgomery County.

2003; paid 900, probably worth around 1.2 now. At the peak we probably could have gotten 1.4. Close-in Chevy Chase MD.
|
In 2002 paid 850. Now I think its worth about 1.1. We're in Ch Chase/Bethesda.
2007 paid 900, Woodley Park. Probably about the same now, given the recent comps.
We're in NoVa. We bought in December. The house next door just sold for $30K more than we paid and it's smaller.
2005, Burke, Va. Just sold for a little over what we paid in 20005. Thankfully we had rolled a sale of a previous home into so we had a decent down payment for our new place.

Bought in 2000 in Chevy Chase DC for 650K. Did a fair amount of mechanical/maintenance type work.
Is probably worth 1.2 now. |
NoVA, 1996, 325K then, about 800K now based on some similar homes selling recently. Those homes would have been 900s to 1m before the mortgage crisis, though.
Bethesda, 355K, 1999, today worth 1.2K.
Bought in May for 295k. House needs about 50k of work. Houses in worse condition (and smaller lots) in our neighborhood are on the market now and have sold for 315-350k. Our seller wanted to sell quickly and leave the country, so I think we made a good decision. We've put about 10k into it so far and looking at comps, it could probably go for 315k right now. Kensington.
I am in trouble, paid $725,000 in 2006, now worth $599,000, i am stuck.
