When did you buy your home and do you think it's gone up or down in value?

20015. 850 k in 2006. Probably the same. We would take a hit though after real estate commissions. Have 200 k equity in it.

We bought our house as a foreclosure in late '08 (the Falls Church part of Fairfax County) and since then we've made a number of improvements. Considering that and the recent comps in our area, I'd say we've appreciated by 40-50K.

Late 2008 in DC. Bought for $362,000. Could probably sell for around $385, but we've put about $20,000 into a basement renovation.

600K for a SFH in Tysons in late 2007. Probably about the same, maybe a bit higher. No one in our neighborhood has put their home on the market since we bought, so it's hard to say. We pretty much all work in Tysons, and no one is interested in selling and enduring a horrible commute!

Bought in nw dc in 2008 for 950k. House went on the market the week before Christmas so things were slow and it seemed like we got a good deal. Zillow estimate is now 1.25 which seems in line with current listings. But who knows.

Bought in 1999, it's worth twice what we paid for it.

Bought in 2000 for $670,000 - new construction. Later finished the basement. Now probably worth $1.2 million. Tysons Corner.

Bought in 2007 for 900+ - think it's gone up slightly in value - but not over $1MM, and mostly due to improvements.

What was the basis of your loan modification? We're in the same boat (different range, we bought for $350 in SS and it's now probably worth 220). Because we can make the payments though, I dont see a loan modification program that would help us. Just plodding along, paying down, eventually we'll owe less than it's worth...

Bought a 2BR apartment on foreclosure in 2008 for $140K. Thought we got a great deal, even in So. Arlington. Surprise! Downstairs unit just sold for $100K.

I'm in the same boat - house less than we owe and have tried reaching out about loan mod but since we make the payments no deal. Curious how the above poster cut and deal and with who.

Bought a Gaithersburg 2BR 2bath condo in 2001 for 81,000 sold it in 2009 for 133,000. Could have gotten 235,000 in 2006-2007.

Shouldn't have bought the one bedroom in Park Fairfax. Shouldn't listened to mom and dad's advice.

At least I made something.

Husband bought 2BR 2 BAth in Oakton in 2005 for 352,000 now worth 272,000.

OUCH Ouch Ouch. Wipes out every penny I made on my sale.

Well, downstairs units always sell for much less than higher floors.
