Its absurd.

All of the consultants "rules" about capacity, eliminating split feeders, avoiding attendance islands,
keeping walkers walking, and sending closest kids to the closest schools seem somehow to not apply to Westfield boundaries.

They created a new split feeder and new attendance islands special just for Westfield. Its so insane.

What is the new attendance island?

There are two: the Bull Run apartment building that is not contiguous to any other Westfield neighborhood and the new section from Brookfield that is also not contigous to any Westfield neighborhood.

If you aren't familiar with the area, the Brookfield slice may not seem like an "island", but the part of Westfield it borders to is all commercial property/warehours/industrial/stores. Meanwhile they walked through residential areas to get to Chantilly HS.

Underneath that section is the mysterious Walney Oaks area that stayed at Chantilly.

Seema:
Its really gross to create new attendance islands specifically to move low-income kids to schools farther away then their current school, just because their income bracket doesn't contribute to your political campaigns. Those are the kids who need to be closer to their schools, for logistical reasons. You are a gross human being.

Got it. FCPS wouldn’t view these areas as attendance islands even if some neighborhoods are isolated.

Really? The Bull Run one isn't connected to any other part of Westfield.

I agree with you--its separated from the rest of Westfield by what? 8 lanes of I-66?

McDaniel never replied to me at all.

Vote them out. If your kid is a recent Westfield grad or rising senior who will be 18 by election day, make sure they go to the polls too.

I understand what you’re saying but suspect FCPS will say that Bull Run has an attendance island but Westfield does not.

But wouldn't they have to drive through several neighborhoods zone to Centerville in order to get to Westfield?

Also, would they also be zoned to Stone? Which is already going to be past capacity?

This is accurate. Those kids can walk through Brookfield that backs up to Chantilly library.

That area is zoned Liberty/Centreville HS. PP is saying there will be a ton of empty seats left open by Seema on purpose at Westfield. Centreville will be overcrowded if its not expanded (and expansion would be incredible waste of money at this point).

The Westfield moms on this thread are exhausting. No wonder no one wants to go there

So the Westfield parents were reasonable, happy to take any kids zoned into their school, and followed the procedures they were supposed to: emailing the SB and commenting on the boundary tool. And their school is being treated like trash.

So the message to the rest of FCPS families for any future boundary changes is don't follow the given procedures, harass and hound Reid and the SB members, make sure a lobbyist and someone who works at Gatehouse lives in your neighborhood, and lie about being able to hear a school band. Whatever you do, don't be polite and reasonable.

My kids don't go to Westfield and I have commented on here about how absurd this outcome is. What makes you think only Westfield parents care about a reasonable process?
