ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Its actually a reference to Homegrown players which is a rule in pro leagues that allows clubs to bring on more roster players than normally allowed if theyre from a local club. The intent is for clubs to get an advantage if they bring up local players. This is because local players can generate interest from fans in the area which potentially brings more in through the gate.

Did someone say MLSN can start their own BY u-little ecosystem?

This is an organization that still haven't announced the names of its tiers , 1 month away from the start of season.

The person has been writing a fantasy novel about MLSN and NWSL destroying ECNL and all of the other leagues that went 8/1.

No, multiple people are pointing out that there are many different potential outcomes. You obviously have your ECNL hat screwed on tight and want a specific outcome to occur. Which is odd because why do you care what other leagues do?

I don't care what MLSN does, we have experience with both leagues. Why does calling out MLSN ineptitude bother you so much?

Its just so onvious that you have an irrational hatred for MLSN.

Sorry your kid got cut from the team. Maybe playing at a lower more appropriate level will help them out. Just think how lucky you would be if your kid had an Aug birthday and they could play down with kids a grade below them in school when ECNL switches to SY.

Wait a minute under BY Aug birthdays are potentially trapped players playing up depending on when their district started.

When switching to SY Aug birthdays who were trapped players in BY can play down TWO grades? This is crazy

The 2nd tier should be named "MLS Next Next" .

It is aspirational which helps opening the check books of the parents.

Yes this is posdible with a single SY 8/1 cutoff. Its what the SY+30 guy is looking to address / not allow.

It only really matters to have one cut off date if MLS teams want to play non MLS teams.

If MLS build a wall it will make ECNL look like rec soccer.

This is not true. MLS has pathways into pro teams. If youre a youth and want to play in MLS in America you need to play in MLSN. This is the hook. MLS Acadamies dont need to conform to anyone else because players will conform to them for the opportunity to play at the highest level.

How would it be playing down two grades?

I'll describe. Say a 2011 soon to be in 8th grade on a BY team that most will be going into freshman year. This is the classic trapped player. Say this player was also an August birthday. When ECNL switches from BY to SY this player will go from being a trapped player playing up to a reverse trapped player playing down a grade. So the 2011 would go from playing against freshman in high school to playing against 7th grade players.

You are such a mouther breather you can't even spell check your one sentence reply's. MLSN isn't going to give your kid a spot because you are on the internet white knighting for them.

Im sorry your kid was cut from a MLSN team. Hopefully playing at lower more appropriate level will help them out.

Bunch of BY folks think white knights of MLS and NWSL are going to invest billions and offer free soccer to all kids as they sell the rights of players to mystery buyers that don't exist to cover costs. And it will all happen within the next year. It's Waiting for Guffman.

Wait a minute, I figured out why you want MLSN to switch to SY so badly. You think that it will give your kid another chance after being cut if MLS switched from BY to SY. I'm sorry to be the one to inform you be MLSN already has biobanding. If they thought your kid had potential they wouldn't have cut them.

How much do clubs generally charge you a year to be a homegrown player in other countries?

“As of right now there does not look to be any changes from for the Trapped U15 player rule. The league is currently reviewing Competition Rules and will send out any highlighted changes before the season starts.”

Sent to my buddy who’s a director for ECNL club.

I don't think this is right. This player will go from being an 8th grade trapped player on a team with 9th graders to being on a team with 8th graders, where they would be the oldest. The 7th graders from that team (young 2012 players) will move "down" to a 2012-2013 team of 7th graders.

The issue that remains though is where August is a soccer cutoff but the school cutoff is sometime later. So the August 2011 player should be on a team with 2012s based on "school year" (e.g., 8th grade) but actually will be in 9th grade. In that case, the club should allow the player to stay on the 2011 team (which will now be a late 2010-2011 team) and play "up" with their grade.
