And the extra training is just an extension of his practices, honestly. It's called "small group" training but it can be 10+ kids in a session and he charges different amounts to different kids lol. It's honestly insane.
Ever think he was trying to improve the team without the distraction of players who weren’t as capable or serious? Charging for the sessions is necessary otherwise he’d have to include everyone, defeating the purpose, and charging different amounts makes it possible for less affluent kids to join. No one is doing it for free, as we all need to make a living. It’s easy to throw stones based on the $, but I bet what really makes parents upset is that their kid wasn’t invited.

He's being paid what? 15,000 or so from GFR to coach each team? He's not working for free. Pay to play private lessons on the side are not allowed by most clubs for a reason. Its hugely divisive.
He's being paid more than that per team. His salary is public and it was over $100k last year, making more than the TD and almost as much as the ED!
Yes, it's hugely divisive - ask anyone who has played for him for more than a season. The last thing girls that age need is more divisiveness.....

Why would anyone want their daughter involved in a team run in such a manner by someone who sounds like a grasping, greedy nasty bully?
PP said a bunch of the 2011s will follow him to VRSC. Must be a terrible coach.
I believe she said a few of them will follow him.
But that makes no sense either. Is there space on the existing roster at VRSC to add multiple new players? The VRSC top teams usually have full rosters already.
If I was a VRSC parent, I would want more information from the club on what is going on with an abrupt coach change mid season.
I think the 2011's at VRSC are not that great so maybe they want some of the GFR players.
The first teams at VRSC all carry the max number of players per roster. THat's how they fill the teams. Then they fill the second team. and so one. There's not room for extra players.
Not true. 2013 only has 17.
At VRSC? Then they have one open spot on their team. You can only have 18 at the games. And I'm sure there will be unhappy second team parents if a new coach shows up mid year for the first team dragging along a few favorite players instead of moving up a second team player.
NVA has teams with well over 18 players, they just roster a different 18 for each game. Players don’t just need to earn playing time each week, they need to earn a roster spot each week.
Yeah but VRSC are lower level teams than NVA. Parents don't expect "competing" to attend at game at the GA/RL levels
VRSA and NVA are both GA and VRSC teams are better than NVA across the board!
Not a true statement
VRSC is the top club in the mid atlantic south. NVA is struggling to win games! There might be an exception or 2 but VRSC currently has a stronger GA program.
That’s some strong stuff you’ve been smokin’

2 age groups NVA is higher in the standings. VRSC only has 1 team not in the top 5.
Meh, I'm not knocking last season because they earned what they earned getting the champions cup bid. I can't speak for all the age groups but strength of schedule and the results of that schedule albeit wins for the 13's have allowed them to be in 1st for the first half of this season. If you look at their goal differential in comparison to the teams nipping at their heels you'll see that sitting on that pedestal may be short lived and obviously you can only play who's on your schedule but it's a big factor in the standings. This is probably why their was a shake up with the coach because the parents and even the club recognized it.

The 13s are the team VRSC is banking on to keep VRSC relevant after the 09s graduate, but they really struggled in the fall notwithstanding the appearance of their win-loss record. If GD can’t figure it out, players are going to leave. It might already be too late given that tryouts are upon us. CC isn’t changing coaches mid-season to stay the course, a big shakeup is coming.

BTW, I didn’t mean to suggest pulling girls from GFR is part of the immediate shakeup. That seems unlikely, at least with the 13s since GD hasn’t coached GFR’s 13s. I meant that we’re likely to see a lot of all of the things some folks don’t like about GD, including finding his favorites and playing them as much as possible and being hard on players who don’t live up to his expectations, in full force.

Yes, it's hugely divisive - ask anyone who has played for him for more than a season. The last thing girls that age need is more divisiveness.....
Unless you’re on the right side of that line. Welcome to real life.

Eh, they're right.
So your logic is that they brought in an awful coach because it will bring a few girls from GFR to help them stay competitive this spring? Makes sense
The 13s are the team VRSC is banking on to keep VRSC relevant after the 09s graduate, but they really struggled in the fall notwithstanding the appearance of their win-loss record. If GD can’t figure it out, players are going to leave. It might already be too late given that tryouts are upon us. CC isn’t changing coaches mid-season to stay the course, a big shakeup is coming.
.
The 09s don’t make VRSC relevant. They embarrassed the club at champions league.
And the GFR 09’s aren’t gonna help VRSC out. The best 09 players left GFR a while ago and none of them are even the top players at VRSC at this point.

The 13’s are happy at GFR with NM as their coach, they’re not leaving to be coached by GD
I can imagine this to be true if they like the coach and team. It will be interesting to see in a year or two when recruiting kicks in if these kids stay RL or start to trend towards GA to be seen. I would assume that would be more of a deciding factor than an awful coach being hired.

true but if the gf center mids or strikers are good that can really help VRSC. VRSC has no one that can play center mid & no one that can score. they have a superior goalie & superior defense. with only 1 d1 player on the roster, they are in need of help offensively.
With the changes I bet NM will be taking over GD’s teams for Spring. Might be interesting to see how he affects those teams. GD had 4 teams so NM has his work cut out for him. Luckily it’s a light season.

GFR 09’s have a great center mid but she’s not going anywhere. Doubt anyone else is either now that NM is officially the coach.
