You think climate change only impacts if you feel hot or cold? Not like food supply, heath issues, the economy? Oy vey. |

Read some history (yeah I know dcum doesn't read history) to understand empire decline. We are at the end of stage 6 entering stage 7. It's been one helluva ride.
The Age of Pioneers The Age of Conquests The Age of Commerce The Age of Affluence The Age of Intellect The Age of Decadence The Age of Decline & Collapse |
Same, grandparents are professors, we're doctors, we have: a social worker, an art therapist, a dogwalker, and live-in nanny. |
Same. My son has a really hard time speaking to people he doesn’t know. He had some low level jobs but finally found a job that works with his skills. He works for the City in one of the departments. He has his own office, he doesn’t have to deal with the public, he has a handful of coworkers. I never would have imagined but it’s a sigh of relief that he found a job that he’s comfortable with. Honestly we do have generational wealth and the grandchildren have their own funds. He’s the only one who doesn’t use it. He makes his lunch every day and uses public transportation. Your son will find something, just support him until he does. |
Well, I guess immigrants aren't the ones driving the acceptance rate from 25% to 5% but it doesn't help that they are taking about a 30% of the slots when they are only like 5 or 6% of the population. |
AI can help with that. |
You think the majority of scientists say we are going to hit runaway greenhouse effect? Then you have no idea what scientists are saying. The WORST CASE SCENARIO predicted by the IPCC is RCP8.5 which predicts an increase of 3.3-5.7 degrees above the pre-industrial temperature by 2100. The world was about 10 degree warmer during the dinosaurs. None of this is runaway greenhouse effect. And it should be noted that RSP8.5 is considered an unlikely scenario. This doesn't mean that climate change is meaningless but it does mean that it isn't an existential crisis for humanity. |
AAP is the gifted and talented program for the moderately above average kids in FCPS |
Living the dream! I would mind this at all. |
| You’re catastrophizing and your worries are irrational if your child isn’t even out of HS. I say this kindly because I tend to do the same thing in other areas. Therapy can really help put it in perspective. |

Ha! Same here. Question is, what happens after the barista/dogwalker/social worker generation? |
|
Grew up in the projects, 1st generation college student, went on to get masters degree, been successful enough that I will leave my kids a cushion to help them maintain or improve their lot in life.
They are well educated and creating their own paths to success. Not as easy as it was for my generation to achieve upward mobility. Most Gen Z kids have been too pampered to develop the skills needed to do well in life. For those that had to work harder from an early age the path upward will be easier. |
We’re gonna need a lot of snow-shovelers in Greenland. |
| Yep. AI is coming for my kid's degree: software engineer (programmer). He's practically in despair about finding a new career. |
