EVERY upper middle class tween and teen girl wearing booty shorts

All teens have questionable fashion sense. It’s part of the fun of being young!

I had two young women (they would have been in the 18-22ish range I think) walking in front of me in the shortest skirts I have ever seen - both were showing booty cleavage, one was showing the majority of her butt cheeks.

I just saw this yesterday in Target. Girl was wearing jeans shorts that shows at last 4” on each side of butt cheeks.

The bootie shorts are commonly worn by the middle school girls that are at my gym. No one wear sweatshirts over top of them. They wear the midriff shirts. The booty shorts honestly kind of look like they are wearing their underpants to the gym.

I only ask her to think of what others will think of her as she slips on a teeny weeny itty bitty bikini and bandaid shorts. She puts a crochet crop top over her bikini and walks out to the beach. The 9 year old does watch her sister and wonders when she can wear "belly shirts" and "booty shorts" but I told her it will not happen until she is 15.

Are you male? the way you have "described" your fictional 18 yr old sounds like a penthouse letter.

A lot of them are wearing an oversized sweatshirt with the short shorts. But yes, others also wear the mid-riff shirts with their boobs popping out. It's all just too much. Where's the modesty? Why are you half naked at a coffee shop or riding an e-scooter around the neighborhood on a Tuesday afternoon?

I cringe when I see photos of myself in the late 1990s in tiiiny skirts and tiny shorts. Now I wear spanx shorts under dresses so that my thighs don't accidentally touch and I wear mom shorts so that I can sit comfortably in restaurants or on public transit and not touch with too much skin . how the times have changed. let the girls be girls.

Grow up. The op isn’t “fixated” on this she is just inquiring into the parental mindset in allowing the dress.
The young girls are *trying* to sexualize their bodies. That’s the whole point of wearing shorts that look like underwear. It’s a normal part of adolescence, but it IS about attracting the leering glances of boys and men. In fact it is so obviously for this reason that the girls dress this way, that I find it strange when parents don’t question it- you have a duty to educate and set guidelines them in safety, academics, nutrition, good sleeping habits, safe sex, screens, financial independence…. But educating and setting guidelines for them in dress is being a “perverted creep.”
Got it. 🙄

No.

It’s out of control and it’s an American problem that we are so permissive that our youngest teens that are newly harmonal are allowed to be so overtly sexual.

In Europe this summer only Americans were wearing short shorts. This really is an indictment of our culture. After all our best export are pornography as well as the Kardashians.

Starting in the late 60’s, 70’s girls were wearing booty athletic shorts with knee high socks. Tube tops with no bras and rompers that barely covered their cheeks

80’s had the tiniest tight mini skirts, see thru shirts, candies heels, big teased hair, globs of make-up

90’s was the anorexia decade with extremely low ride skinny flare jeans that showed off tramp stamps and things and ass cracks. Tight crop tops that showed off barbell naval rings, baby doll tanks that barely covered a thing, platform heels, etc…

I could go on and on. Every decade there are “risqué”clothing for teens that some parents go crazy for while forgetting what they wore when they were a teen.

Well put: and your description of the 90s is so on point and explains so much an about why those 90s kids became menopausal moms on GLPs when they don’t need them. Unbelievable that the coke head wait Kate moss image lives on in so many women’s heads.

Schools had rules at that time. What people wore to a party was different to what they wore at school.

They are dropping these girls off in the K&R loop with their cheeks exposed under the short shorts.

I’m shocked that they would want to go to school and sit in close proximity to others with their butt cheek edges hanging out all day.

Thank God for uniforms!

And as others have said - not a class issue - fancy private school kids have them under their skirts, which come off the moment they get home, exposing their way too short shorts. I sigh because my older girls do this and now my 9 year old is rolling her shorts to make them shorter.

The girls at private schools wear their uniform skirts so short you can see their cheeks.

This. The Catholic school in my hometown was St. Gertrude and everyone (including the girls themselves) called them “Dirty Gerties.”

Oy vey, talk about a chip on your shoulder. Decades later you're still holding a grudge against and smearing all of those pretty, affluent, and proper Catholic girls. Yeah they're affluent and pretty... but... but... they were trashy drunken whores who hiked their uniform skirts up! Let it go.

NP. Why are you making things up? You have no idea if they were rich or pretty. It’s not a given at Catholic schools.
