Can private school kids attend public school

for that week at the end of the year and the week at the beginning of the year?

No, they are not registered or enrolled at that school.

Plus, to give this question more credibility than it deserves, the last few weeks of public elementary school are parties, while the last few weeks of public middle and high schools are final exams. Why would anybody want to do this? Well, maybe the parties, but your kid wouldn't know anybody. I think OP has too much time on her hands.

Free daycare I am assuming? You would have to register, transfer records, your child would likely be tested. Just pay a babysitter...

Hmm . . might be on to something here. I already pay for public school by virtue of my address so they really would have to take us. I could enroll my kids and they could take the bus to the local ES which is close enough to their private that they could walk. They could attend spring break week and the summer school as well. I suppose they'd report us as truant though.

My SIL did something like this -- although it was in the context of a cross-country move, so it was a little more reasonable. I guess. Either way, her kids got out of their private west coast school in the middle of May. They moved east a week later and she promptly enrolled her kids in the public school, which had another couple of weeks of scheduled classes. Of course, she knew full-well that the kids would be attending private school that fall, but she did occupy them for a couple of weeks so she could get unpacked!

Yup, I am paying for it, so I should be able to use it. The enrollment process is easy, records transfer, easy. Saves about $800 in child care for me.

And it is all about you, right? Doesn't matter how awful/awkward it would be for your kids or how disruptive it would be to the teachers and rest of the class? Sometimes you can be right and still be wrong. Think about it.

How will you feel asking your private school teachers/administrators to fill out the forms etc? As a private school teacher I can tell you that there is always work involved when a student leaves the school. I am happy to provide needed information when that occurs for whatever reason..but if I heard you were just looking for free child care?? It would really be a problem for me. Would you feel comofrtable telling the PS exactly what the situation was? If not..don't do it!

11:15 touches on an interesting point. By enrolling in your kids in the local public, you are transferring schools. Which means they aren't returning to your private in the fall, they are transferring in. That potentially voids your re-enrollment contract and opens up your kid's spot to someone on the waiting list.

You probably want to have a conversation with the private school, otherwise looks like your kid will be in that public classroom for a lot longer than just that first week in September!

The kids have a blast. They don't cause trouble.

I am not sure that the public school can keep a child out even if it is for "childcare". The child will learn something there and they have a right to the facility. The parents could easily argue that the child needs more days in school, that the private school year is too short for DS. Also, the privates don't give a hoot about sending a transcript, it happens all the time when kids get speech therapy and so on at public school.

Nah, I would just tell our private shcool that it was for "enrichment" and that I wanted her to learn about "diversity"

This has got to be a joke.. I am envisioning a little 7 year old telling her new (very temporary) classmates that she is there to learn about diversity..
