Can private school kids attend public school

You have to admit that it is not a bad idea, kids love a change once in a while.

I think it's cruel to do this to your kids.

I could enroll my kids and they could take the bus to the local ES which is close enough to their private that they could walk. They could attend spring break week and the summer school as well. I suppose they'd report us as truant though.

If you want to go to the public school that badly then just enroll and go. Full time. If saving money is what is importnat to you then why are you paying $30k for tuition when, as you point out, you are already paying for public school.

I work at a private school and can tell you several kids have transferred to public with absolutely no official records transfer. I assume the family provides copies of their report cards, etc. Sometimes we get a records request, sometimes not - more often yes for elementary because they want health records, occasionally for middle school, never for high school.

and before you know it, you will be reported to CPS
Either way, once the school knows the child attends another school, the kid is no longer enrolled.
Why would you do this to a child? Do you think being that exotic of a specimen in fun for a kid.
Did you ever change schools that often as a kid to even know what you are talking about?

When we enrolled in MCPS, coming from a private school, it was actually a fairly involved process. We had to produce report cards, health records, proof of residency, etc. We also had to meet with the guidance counselor to select classes. We had to make an appointment in advance for this meeting. It took the better part of a morning to enroll and the child had to be there as well as both parents.

Yup, I am paying for it, so I should be able to use it. The enrollment process is easy, records transfer, easy. Saves about $800 in child care for me.

If this is really the case, I hope you realize that you're already the freak in the 'hood, and you're not making it any easier for your kids.

I'm pretty sure this is a joke, DCUMs.

Yup. And that was probably the most attention you will ever receive MCPS.

Actually we have had a great experience in MCPS. I am not sure what kind of attention we would need from the school system. The school itself is great and I think the kids get plenty of attention.

Isn't there a tax deduction for private school? and if so I'm pretty sure you'd be committing tax fraud by taking the deduction and also using public school resources.

selecting classes? Sounds like middle school.

Yes, to enter public school, you will need to show vax records and proof of residency.

I'm sure they'd ask for report cards, but it's not like they can't take your child if you lack them. I once had a child enter my class in 3rd grade having attended NO school, ever, in his life, before.

The parent can provide copies of past report cards. No need to bother the child's former school.

If your child's private school gets out in early June but the public schools are still in session for three weeks, I can see how for some parents the free 3 weeks of daycare might be seen as a good thing.

I am going to do this next year!

Public school is NOT daycare.
