VYS Soccer - better or worse?

Nice.
09s came up short in their finals. But good showing by both teams.

You can tell all of your Facebook friends how your superstar played a team all the way from North Carolina? Or it's just nice travel and stay in hotels and eat out in another state during a pandemic?

In part, because it's exciting for the kids. As a kid growing up first in a number of different states, some of my favorite times and best friends in soccer came from weekends in a hotel, playing around together before and after games, and generally being out of town with my team. It's fun and different. It's definitely tougher as a parent, and I think there's a legitimate argument whether it's good right now during Covid or not, but's fun for the kids to play different teams and hang out with their teammates. There are plenty of other ways to do it without traveling, but if the kids enjoy it and the parents are willing to do it, then awesome for them to use soccer as an excuse to visit nearby states.

Not to mention that it is much better than the Bethesda Cup.

It's a really good tournament; ignore the people on here, who are either objecting out of envy because their specific VYS team did not go or based on an extremely poor understanding of science and incremental risk. It's exactly the thing that VYS needs to do to attract and retain top talent. Of course it will cause consternation within and outside the club - anybody showing ambition and competitiveness immediately attracts scorn, but welcome to the United States in 2020.

What? You think sending the 12 year team to NC for a tournament will attract and maintain talent? This is probably what you aren't attracting and maintaining talent....you're clueless.

So bitter.
FYI other clubs go to Europe...like Arlington. So, you have that.

Obviously, you have an axe to grind. Maybe go for a jog? It will help you destress.

Personally, I don't care where you go to play soccer but if you think it will attract and maintain talent there, you are clueless. Just saying.

Clearly not going to attract you. Which is likely the goal.

Didn't want to play in McLean's tournament?

Bethesda is a quality tournament if you can get in the higher brackets

Bethesda ended up canceling 2 age groups. That did not work out so well for Bethesda, Loudoun and other ECNL teams

I agree it is unlikely to attract talent but it will help maintain players. Kids like to travel to tournaments. They got to play against ECNL teams not in the area. Sure they got smoked but at least Vienna doesn't have to worry about the kids trying to leave for any of the teams they played. If they were ton play ECNL teams locally they may see how much better other clubs are and start to look around. IMO a very smart move by Vienna

You are just dumb. There is no material difference between playing a tourney in NC and at home. Stay in your bubble, mind your business, and stick with your limited liberal arts degree learning before dispensing scare nonsense like this.

I'm not the prior poster and, personally, I don't care that you went to NC....but of course there is a difference. No hotel stay needed for local tournaments and less eating out.

Not to mention the infection rate is worse down there and also where many of those teams have come to play from vs the rate in DC metro (which is also rising now that we are into the winter months).

Us liberal arts majors don't understand the existence of hotels.

I mean ... WE liberal arts majors, etc.

(I think; therefore, the hotel exists.)

Shut up fool.

I did not go to NC. But I have been elsewhere during the pandemic. Staying in hotels these days is a lot different than it used to be, whether in Wake County or elsewhere. And we have ordered takeout at home and on the road numerous times without event. Finally, the infection rate is not materially different in Wake. So try leaving the bubble once in a while or please can it and try to do something beyond mouth what you think is scientific advice. It is nonsense to shame people for going to Raleigh for a soccer tournament and about as productive as me hectoring you to read a little more and yip a little less.

Clearly not going to attract you. Which is likely the goal.

Not a smart move during a pandemic and Covid cases rising.

What a douche you are...I said I don't care that they went to NC, but to think there is NO DIFFERENCE between staying home and staying in a hotel and eating out LESS...I don't know what to tell ya....except STFU.

I have a kid who is currently scheduled to make trips to north and south Carolina this winter. I'm not worried about the hotel piece as we have decided there will not be room-sharing on these trips. I am more worried about all the congregating indoors that is going to be happening. When you only have 1 game a day there is a lot of downtime.
