This is completely fair as long as we can fault a certain Texas Governor for throwing immigrants on a bus and plane rides to other states....

You realize you've created an agitative situation of pitting state against state, right. That seems to be what you leftists revel in.

Not really. If you're scared to death of migrants and hate them illegally entering, it surely would suck if a governor takes those migrants and gets them on transit to SPREAD even further out through the country.

DP. The point, which you insist on missing over and over, is that liberals are quite happy to pay lip service to welcoming migrants. Well, as long as they’re not in THEIR backyard. Out of sight, out of mind, amirite? Once they become a reality in YOUR life, then all of a sudden we have “a problem.” You people are the poster children for hypocrisy.

I have lived 95% of my life with and around migrants - shopping, eating, living life etc., including growing up and going to school and my kids doing the same.

Now, I do think we need to streamline the process of immigration but that is a separate issue.

You are very much in the minority if you have no problem with illegal immigrants receiving free healthcare, housing, and education in the U.S.

You do realize that even those who are undocumented are largely paying taxes right? They are contributing to those things just the same as you and me. It’s not “free.”

Sorry, no. When they receive free emergency room care (using it like a typical doctor’s office) , the taxpayers are footing the bill. When their children crowd the schools, the kids who are actually citizens get far less attention. We all know this. The “paying taxes” trope is absurd. Most are paid in cash, under the table, any amount of taxes taken out are minuscule. Just stop with your ridiculous excuses for importing more and more poverty.
DP

False. The majority work "on the books" and receive paychecks. In 2016 it was estimated that in Virginia undocumented workers paid between $200M and $304M in sales, excise, property, and income taxes. Estimated $13B same year in contributions to Social Security Trust Fund. Maybe your landscape worker is paid under the table but many work in places like meat and food processing and are on payroll. And they can get a tax ID number for withholding purposes. In 2019, according to the IRS, more than 2.5 million tax returns were filed using ITINs, accounting for nearly $6 billion in taxes.

Of course, Trump has always courted the low information voters. A published study in 2021, "Cognitive Sophistication, Religion, and the Trump Vote" (you can actually download free from Wiley" included a 10 point vocabulary test. 73% of the people who didn't get a single test question right were Trump voters. Each question answered correctly correlated to a 14% DROP in the likelihood of voting for Trump.

Has it never occurred to you to wonder why Trump said "I love the poorly educated"? They will believe anything apparently.

So, what were your SAT vocab scores?

So let's do some simple math. You claim they paid $6B using ITNs.

DHS estimates there are about 11-12 million undocumented people living here. Let's be VERY generous and assume half of those are are kids.

So that leaves 6 million undocumented people paying $6B in so called taxes.

Big whoop, that equals only a $1000 paid by every undocumented individual here illegally who is working and supposedly paying tax.

They are clearly not paying their fair share of income tax,.which is the primary bulk of taxation for any legal citizen
. Consumptive taxes mean jack squat.

I pay sales taxes too when I go travel on holiday in Europe or when I got study abroad for a year. Does that entitle me access to all of their social benefits, their schools, and healthcare just because I pay some VAT? Lol, hell no, because I'm not a citizen and I don't pay fill income taxes.

Lol, I love this crappy argument Dems always use. If you actually calculated the numbers, it clearly shows undocumented don't pay anywhere near their fair share of income tax. The rest of the taxes are superfluous, because people who travel here on vacation also pay those sales taxes, yet we wouldn't allow them to enroll their kids in our schools.

So, what was your SAT math score?

Probably below 450 I'm guessing.

LOL, now do the billionaires.

You notice the pattern?

--Crickets when a Kushner (whose own HS was shocked) or Dubya or Trump get into prestigious schools, but scream about the low income black kid who got in w/ a 3.8 GPA.

--Crickets when it comes to the millions in PPP loans forgiven for REPUBLICANS, but scream about the kid who got his student loan forgiven.

--Crickets about the economy going to sh*t with Trump's tax cuts for the super wealthy, but scream about any relief Dems were giving to avg Americans incl. child tax credit.

If Trump wins, I guarantee seniors will go back to paying more for insulin and other meds, so ghouls like Manchin's daughter can make more in bonuses.

PPP was a national emergency. I don't agree with Trump furnishing the funds, but you do see a difference between that and your kid taking out student loans and then deciding they don't want to pay them back, don't you?

Why a child tax credit? You wanted the kid, now pay for them instead of demanding other tax payers do with a steeper and steeper progressive tax system. It's time the tax system is flattened so more people pay.

I have nothing against the black kid getting into a prestigious school as long as their test scores aren't weighted differently for race. If you have to weight and play games to boost the score of someone to displace a better student, then we have problems.

I hope you understand the other side's positions.

BTW, we have shortages of insulin and other medications right now. That's what edicts from Uncle Sam in his ivory towers causes - market dislocations followed by shortages of goods and services. Compare how long it takes to get an appointment with the specialist in the medical field today versus several years ago.

You heard it here first.

Not going to happen.

Harris will have the nomination wrapped up by Wednesday according to sources on the news.

Obama is keeping quiet as he did in 2016 and 2020, nothing new.

And Michelle isn't happening. She has no interest and isn't qualified.

Qualifications don’t matter and I actually disagree that MO isn’t qualified . She’s more qualified than Kamala . Her push for added sugar to be added on nutrition labels was hugely influential but it’s not noted by anyone in media for some reason . I will always appreciate her for that. In my eyes, that was more revolutionary than what Barack did with Obamacare especially for communities where diabetes runs rampant .

Okay, this is absurd, and I'm not even pro-Harris.

Kamala is smarter and more accomplished than Michelle, but at least one poll from a while ago showed that Michelle could beat Trump.

I'm sure a poll would also show that Oprah could beat Trump, but she's not going to be the nominee either.

Everyday idiocracy somehow becomes more and more of a documentary.

So you only concern yourself with the taxes paid rather than why you get to pay like 1.99 for baby spinach? Anyone can counter your argument by pointing out how little they're paid in the first place for their labor, which is why Americans can still go buy a "family size" tray of chicken breasts for a ridiculously low price. Meanwhile, some 14yo falls into the meat grinder while mopping the bloody floor.

Well if you ate worried about 14 year olds bring injured in the workplace, you should vote Democratic. That is the party that supports worker protections and adequate funding for OSHA.

What is it that you think Trump will accomplish as a lame duck President who will still be dealing with trials, lawsuits, and jail time? Just about everyone in his last administration quit and said horrible things about him. What super wonderful things did he accomplish in his first term? He’s going to preoccupied with handing out pardons to all of his followers from J6 and other loyalists, maneuvering to get all of his federal charges dismissed, handing out awards to Rudy and The My Pillow Guy, cozying up to despots and Putin, building monuments to himself and figuring out ways to go after Democrats. The last thing on his mind is actually doing anything that benefits the country and not him in particular.

People used to putting aside missteps, sacrificing sleep and enduring the occasional tirade from an irate boss say doing so under Harris can be particularly difficult, as she has struggled to make progress on her vice-presidential portfolio or measure up to the potential that has many pegging her as the future of the Democratic Party.

Or you know, they don’t support her on the issues and it’s not sexism at all. Like Hilary, Kamala isn’t owed a vote for her sex. She has to earn it.

Exactly. I can't believe there are still people (Democrats) who believe not voting for the woman is somehow "sexist."

You have got to be kidding. Everyone on both sides and every walk of life or media source has known that Joe was in declining health and experiencing dementia for quite awhile now. But maybe you are also outraged at the media and the RNC for pretending that Trump is a stable genius here to save the world as if there's not a thing wrong with him, right?

How do you define "quite a while"? From what I've read the decline was only noticeable in the last 2 months.
