Again, hate to point it out, but why must reporting on these divisive news events be handled by someone with a conflict of interest? The mobs would be howling if Dana Bash's name was Dana al Bashir.

I get that it doesn't really even matter because CNN has now been outed for blind adherence to pro-Israel coverage from much higher up in the food chain than Bash, but seriously ... it's like consuming news of a massacre at the chicken coop from a coyote. Can we establish some ground rules that avoid these conflicts?

CNN is totally in the tank for Israel. They clear and rewrite all their stories about Israel with the Israeli government. It was reported a few months ago. The line reporters did not like catching the heat for the over the top pro Israel propaganda being pumped out.

Wow, shame on Dana Bash. I really liked her, but she loses a lot of credibility for not fact-checking her story (which took me 3 seconds):

"More than half of Jewish and Muslim students, and a fifth of all college students, feel unsafe on campus because of their stances on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, according to a new report from the University of Chicago Project on Security and Threats, a nonpartisan research center on international politics and security."

Even if a college divests, nothing changes. Like, literally nothing.

Protest peacefully in Washington. Lobby your reps on the Hill.

If you just want to cosplay “activist” on your parent’s dime instead of studying for exams, then do it in DC. At least it will be somewhat effective.

People don't want to do that in this instance for the repercussions of being labeled antisemitic or pro-Hamas or losing their job. That's why it will come out at the ballot box.*

For comparison, I was in this crowd of 100K on 10/26/2002 for the ANSWER rally to protest the looming war with Iraq. For comparison, I looked up the total death count by that point: about 22,000 Afghans. So not even close to the total death count in Palestine we've already unfortunately seen.

Bush did what he wanted and another 250K to 380K civilians died.

Here's the rally for those who want to relive, there was also a march: https://www.c-span.org/video/?173521-1/anti-war-rally

*AP polling as of early February (so undoubtedly much higher) showed...
"Half of US adults say the military response from Israel in the Gaza Strip has gone too far, up from November" and
Only "31% of U.S. adults approve of Biden’s handling of the conflict, including just 46% of Democrats"

Ok.

And which American presidential candidate will handle things differently/better…recognizing we really don’t have any control over what Israel does?

Biden stands with Israel.

Trump will, too.

So, is there someone you think has the silver bullet?

So, just leave Israel unchecked? Throw up our hands? I think most people in the world would hope people would protest 35K civilians dead in 6 months.

Um, do you not follow the news?

ICYMI: The US and the UK are working tirelessly to get this under control. Google it. Heavy coverage starting 48 hours ago. Go educate yourself on what the sane leaders from the civilized countries are doing to put an end to the suffering.

Nobody is leaving Israel unchecked. All of this is just more complicated at the local, regional, and global levels than you realize.

They're not following the news. The read sound-bites and parrot them over and over again.
Most of the people who can't go thirty seconds without barking out "Zionist" don't even know what a Zionist is and hadn't heard the term a year ago.

I am not a protester. And I do read the news. I do feel like the US administration is handling Israel with kid gloves on their abhorrent behavior in Gaza. And wish they would take a more even handed approach. I do think protesters should be able to make that point without being labeled as antisemitic or having their job offers rescinded etc. I hope it goes without saying that illegal activities like taking over a building etc could and should have consequences for the protesters. If you are willing to do illegal things to make your point, you should expect to deal with the fallout.

Also, on the “Zionist” thing. I had never really thought about what a Zionist believes until Biden declared himself a Zionist. Then I tried to understand it a little better and came away with understanding that it means in essence belief in the right to a Jewish state. So, I thought, “hey, I guess that makes me a Zionist too” because why shouldn’t we have one (or more) majority Jewish countries? It was only when I thought through the implications of how you can achieve a majority Jewish state in a land that is not majority Jewish, that I realized you have to have preferential immigration and citizenship laws to maintain the imbalance. So I can now say that I cannot support Zionism because for me, the right to a Jewish state does not override the rights of people of the region.

It's not just the logistics and the way implementation of the Zionist movement was effectuated as a brutal, ongoing massacre of indigenous people. It's the vile, vulgar, inhumane way that the extreme elements of the Zionist movement operate day-to-day, interacting with others who don't hold their views as sacrosanct. Zionists have co-opted what it means to be Jewish and tried to ensnare everyone who is critical of those extreme elements as an anti-semite in their grand plan to getting their way or crying wolf. Peaceful, adjusted, normal Jewish people don't share values with Zionists, just like peaceful, adjusted, normal Palestinians doesn't share values with Hamas. Zionism is the other side of the Hamas coin.

But that is exactly what you're doing.

Really? How so? You think observing how maniacs behave, and then describing it with high fidelity to the facts, makes the observer just as bad?

Explain yourself.

You're the same poster who just called Zionists "vengeful, bloodthirsty and maniacal", with an "insatiable appetite for harming others who dare to challenge them", "essentially the worst human beings one could ever come across in 1,000 lives".

As evil as Netanyanu is, and he certainly is, that is not "high fidelity to the facts". You have a level of hatred that is, quite frankly, insane.

Oh, sweetie - your word salad is showing again.

You're obsessed with identifying who's who here, taking notes to sort it all out, preserving screenshots of posts, probably reporting people incessantly, and of course you think you're the smartest person in the room. I'll forgive you for failing to understand that most posters don't seem to use the OP, PP, and DP headers with regularity. There won't be any doxxing today, though, which I know brings you tremendous consternation as you'd like nothing more than to ruin someone's life for daring to criticize the profoundly bad group you're part of.

You're on the wrong side of history this time, in a very bad way. In that way, I understand why you're so desperate to make it all stop. Not because of any actual threat of anti-semitism, but because people like you have decided to try to link criticism of Zionism with anti-semitism. Dog don't hunt. Try again.

Sheppard was joined for that appearance by New York Mayor Eric Adams, who echoed the claim that the encampment and occupation of a building at the school — dismantled by the police department Tuesday night — were influenced heavily by “outside agitators.” Adams also went further, broadly suggesting that protesters were somehow snookering or brainwashing students, a group that he repeatedly referred to as “children.”

We had to really move in for the safety of those children, and do it in the right way,” Adams — himself a former New York City police officer — said on MSNBC. “I see the independent observers saw how the police department deployed and used precision tactics with minimum amount of force, because these were children, to make sure that we could really eradicate the problem that we were seeing.”
“I just want to send a clear message out that there are people who are harmful and are trying to radicalize our children,” he added later. “And we cannot ignore this, that these outside influences, I don’t know if they’re international, I think we need to look into that as well.”
MSNBC’s Katty Kay pressed him on this point, referring to the arrests of people inside the university’s Hamilton Hall.
“The 40 to 50, are they people that you know to be professional agitators?” she asked. “You just referred to them as ‘children.’ Are they students?”

“A great question. And we are sorting through that now,” Adams said. He later returned to his previous point, suggesting that the people present on campus were demonstrating patterns of behavior seen internationally, like “wearing all black” or “covering your faces completely.”

“These our children,” he said, “and we can’t allow them to be radicalized like children are being radicalized across the globe.”

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/05/01/eric-adams-columbia-protests/

WTF? Sounds like these “terrorists” who are really “children” but who are “outside activists” but who are being radicalized but who are students need to be sent to re education camp where they can all learn the value of Israel!

What the f#ck is wrong with this country? How did this thug become mayor of NYC? Just wow!

Meet his boss

Word salad? I literally just quoted things that someone else wrote.

But I'll say this: I've been here for ten minutes today, after logging in for the first time in weeks. I've never screenshot anything or reported anyone. I'm not part of any group.

You're clearly projecting, because you've been here for hours and really need to go outside and get some fresh air.

Most of the kids don’t even know what they are supporting in the protest.

The deep relationship between the New York Police Department and Israel has been greatly strengthened over the last two decades, as the NYPD has sought Israeli expertise in counterterrorism and as Israeli police have looked to New York for their “broken windows” model of community policing.
Since 2002, the New York Police Department has blurred the work of urban policing, counterterrorism and intelligence to a degree that is unprecedented for any American police department. This transformation included the creation of the infamous “Demographics Unit,” which ran a secret program monitoring Muslim communities that was revealed in a Pulitzer-winning series by the Associated Press in 2011. In this program – sprawling from NYC all the way to Canada – the NYPD treated basic acts of daily living as potential crimes, surveilling Muslims in their homes, mosques, schools, restaurants, coffee shops, and universities.

Yeah, I can guess your age from your post.

You know nothing but your allegiance to another country. It is shocking anyone would think training in police tactics and intelligence by Israel would come to anything but racist profiling. The Israelis are a joke in terms of intelligence, fighting and policing. Look at how many times they have been hit by surprise attacks. Every major war. Lucky they have the US to bail them out of their incompetence.

They never reply because it’s so humiliating to acknowledge the fact that they have one hypocritical rule for Israeli supporters and another for everyone else.
