WTF?

Sidwell Friends Academy is being sued for $10 million for allegedly allowing its staff psychologist to carry on an affair with the married mother of a 5-year-old student he was treating.

Ridiculous article. "Sidwell Friends Academy"? And what on Earth does this have to do with the Obamas? Not to mention it makes no sense that a middle school counselor would be treating any child, especially a child in the lower school. I don't doubt that people behaved badly here but I don't see how the school is responsible. And I'm not a Sidwell parent.

And why are you posting this link? Are you the Dad or something?

I like how Terry Newmyer won the Newmyer award. I am sure there were surprised faces all around on that one.

Read the court paperwork on the examiner website..

You mean where they quote the allegations made by the father?

Not to excuse the behavior of the lead defendant, but it seems pretty intuitive that the husband and family had major issues. This lawsuit is frivolous in the sense that any psychological damage inflicted as a result of the extramarital relationship is unprovable. The fact that the daughter was already in treatment by outside psychologists is telling.

I smell a plaintiff who is hurting and is taking it out on the school and the lead defendant. Poor girl too, to have a dad like that.

Yeah, the dad's the problem here. Whatever.

The wife clearly didn't want herself or her daughter anywhere near him, and the girl was already in psychotherapy. These are pre-existing to the facts surrounding the lawsuit.

Hard to believe a local reporter wouldn't know it's called Sidwell Friends School, not academy.

Omg. Nightmare. This is looking like the Duff/Perelman divorce from the late 90's. Scorched earth and nuclear winter all rolled into one. And the divorce hasn't even started. SFS's liability will hinge on whether they had a reason to know that their employee was negligent. Sounds like they did since he (the Dad) told them. Prediction: Sidwell will have to settle quietly. Everyone involved will have been suitably embarrassed. That's probably all he really wants.

Wow. I just the court docs. Just amazing. How awful for those poor children. I cannot believe the school did not take action earlier.

Not to nitpick but the article does say school. The OP used the word academy.
