500 hours is considered well qualified. average for the position. this per Fox News. There was an instructor on board with 1000 hours, which is very well qualified. Probably the voice we heard. Seemed like an older white guy. |
It’s owned by the embassy but not the actual embassy. |

Watching the Nightly News. Really strikes me how excellent the emergency response was. Good coordination between all jurisdictions. Fire boats at site within 10 minutes. Sadly, it didnt matter.
Maybe we will learn it wasn't so smooth, but this was still impressive IMO. |
Who needs a report? Trump’s massive brain has already identified the problem. |
It did happen on his watch. He is incredibly sensitive to that, which is why he bee lined immediately to faulting the previous admin. |

Trump is belligerent even with the easiest questions:
“Trump said he would meet with some of the families affected by the crash. Asked by reporters whether he would visit the collision site, Trump responded: “What’s the site? The water? You want me to go swimming? I don’t have a plan to do that, but I will be meeting with some people that were very badly hurt — with their family member, obviously.”” —WaPo |
Every flight probably crosses some embassy's property. This is DC. |
Thanks for sharing. This was a really good explanation of the tragedy. |
I thought the evidence is that the Helo location STARTED at this embassy affiliated location. No? |

The cause of Wednesday’s midair collision between an Army helicopter and a passenger jet is under investigation. But the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 67 people, was only the latest in a series of accidents involving Army helicopters the past couple of years. The three soldiers from Fort Belvoir, Va., who were killed were conducting an annual training exercise near Ronald Reagan National Airport when the crash occurred. All 60 passengers and the four crew members aboard the American Airlines flight also died. The crashes and mishaps of Army helicopters, which can include hard landings or other incidents that yield damage or injuries, have been so frequent in the past two years that the number of fatalities from these incidents — at least 18 — has surpassed those killed in recent combat operations abroad. |
Can’t believe someone was dumb enough to actually ask him to visit the collision site. He should’ve said oh You mean in the middle of the sky? |
Was the ATC a woman? I’m sure she already feels awful and is near suicidal and I’m also sure that the Triumpers will say awful things. |
I think it’s actually compiicated especially in these regional airlines. There was a great article a few months back in WaPo o think about flight attendants and basically how crappy their schedules are until they hit a certain level of seniority. |
Only you (and our president) would be stupid enough to not understand that question. Anyone with any common sense understands that to mean next to crash site on the ground. |
It was a male. |
