And...camps were open even last summer in the DMV.

guys, this is actually where the school closing discourse is right now: “You shouldn’t complain about schools being closed - schools didn’t even exist in the 1800s!” this is a thing that “influencers” are disseminating right now in an attempt to get DCPS and other school systems to close.

Of course, our liberal school districts will use that to close! However, activities in rec centers did not exist until recently, nobody went to all summer camp until recently, nobody but the wealthy. Hence claiming that our kids are suffering bcs they didn't have community-based activities is ridiculous, bcs most kids don't have them even today and most of us didn't have them growing up. I certainly didn't.
You are conflating two different things. And I want school to open, I was against them being closed at all and I sure as heck don't understand why were they closed last school year, even if we can find some excuse for March 2020 closure.

I’m not sure how to explain this to you: the fact that certain things didn’t exist before does not mean that we can just take them away now with no impact. each time and place had its own fabric of social life and institutions. you may think summer camp is NBD; but to my only child with autism, it is a BIG deal.

Anyone "explaining" anything with emojis is not worth my reading the post. Bye.
But, to add to my post, activities were open last summer and all year long. OPEN! nobody's fault but your own if your kids were not in activities.

Last summer? As in 2020?

Everything was cancelled. At least in the non-insane areas of the country.

Really? So how was DS earning money and working full time in a tennis camp? In College Park?

Guess MD has some idiots too.

The vast majority of “regular life” was shut down last summer.

Exactly.

Everyone want schools to be open.

Which is why we are pissed at the a-holes who can’t do the right thing. Couldn’t mask, distance, vaccinate, etc.

WTF is wrong with you people?

Wait, do you still think the pandemic raged because people didn’t…”mask”?
