So, how exactly would a guest player work exactly at U9? There are not full scouting reports or player profiles at 8 years old. How did Bethesda decide to pick up what players? Were they going along during the season and played against a really talented kid and decided, "hey, he'd be a great addition for the Super Copa?"

Also, Bethesda must have had a fair number of guest players. They struggled in CCL in the Spring against some teams not named SYC. My DS team played both and SYC was light years better. Heck, Alexandria was better than them. And now they had a good enough team to win Super Copa??? Hmmm...

A lot of the kids and parents on top teams know each other, even at this age. And coaches see and note other players (yes, even at this age). A lot of them end up congregating at clubs like pipeline, Bethesda and SAC by U11s or U12s. And yes, of course Bethesda does this.

This brings back such memories. Years and years ago, my son’s U8 or U9 team was playing against a BSC team that sounds similar to the current U9s. DS’s team got destroyed. Afterward, the BSC coach approached our son and asked who his parents were. He then told DH and DS that DS had a lot of potential, but without careful coaching and skill training, would end up relying on his athleticism and aggression and would never fully develop. He offered to let DS train with his team for free, and DS did so and guested with that team for a year or so before joining BSC. We will forever be grateful that a kind stranger intervened to help a kid with clueless soccer parents.

And yes, then as now, ambitious coaches seem to know the top kids in the area, and the kids know each other. It’s funny how there are these intense rivalries at the little kid ages, and at older ages a lot of the kids will end up on the same team or become social media friends. Even though there is a lot of insanity on this thread, I bet a lot of parents here will look back with fondness on teams that they disparaged when they were new to the world of competitive sports, and be nostalgic for how simple sports and life were for their kid at that age. At least I hope so.

They had 3 guest players, one of which was always in goal bec the old goalie moved. They worked their butts off and trained for months and won this because they are great. They won every game in the fall on age. They played up in spring and lost to Alexandria and Arlington. SYC was the only team on age that beat them. I figured SYC might struggle at SuperCopa without the ability to strategically foul and play dirty and that proved true. Kids on both teams are kids and some of the adults on this thread are ridiculous. I agree with some of the other comments on here about the SYC coach.

Funny how SYC calls the ugly game they play "Samba" lol ...

Salty BSC parents 🤣🤣🤣, just cause they can't match the Samba Boys talent without GUEST players.

BSC with 0 guest players and 1 starting 2013 vs SYC with 0 guest players and 2 2013 starters = 10-1 SYC 😜

Not a BSC parent, but you got an American guy of Saudi descent coaching your Samba boys. Kick coach a ball and check out his first touch, I’m sure it’s smooth as silk, lol.

Such an ass. That coach you're making fun of had his own local soccer journey which likely went far longer than yours did, and likely farther than many of the coaches in the area. He's had a successful career off the field, which has allowed him to personally fund much of the training and opportunities for many of the kids playing on that team. Perhaps there are things about his style you disagree with or don't like, but attacking his background and ethnicity is uncalled for and inappropriate.

Lol if that’s what you call attacking, I bet you are that coach

Np here- I did not read that as an attack. I read it as a description of someone with a possible bad first touch. Only negatively was on the soccer skills.

Yeah, you’ve been fooled. He never played anywhere.

Im just saying if the sambo boys coach was so good SYC would want him with older teams too. Also if the players were that great other clubs would start to poach them this year. To teach these young boys to play that style is asking for them to get the a$$ kicked in real life within the next few years. Ive seen the boys and most of the parents. They are mostly smaller hispanic families. which leads me to believe just as they foul dirty on the field they will get hurt when they fight a bigger actual athlete.

Obviously you do not understand that is not tackle football. Height has very little or nothing to do with the ability to be physical.

And muscle mass? Bone density? Type 1 and type 2 muscle ratios? It’s not just height, though height can help.

Hey from what I know he’s a good dude and not the type to get his feelings hurt about message board nonsense. But not sure that translates to good touch.

You all keep talking about the Samba Boys' coach - when my DS played them, they had four coaches on the sideline for a league game. Plus two more in SYC gear. It was one of the most absurd things I've ever seen.

Why do you think they raise money for all these tournaments? It's to fly out all the coaches for the team!

I know a brother from PG County will knock out an Amigo from Springfield 98 out of 100 times.

SAC and a few other clubs and a player who has guest played for a lot of clubs around, here including SYC. Those are really top notch players. I suspect many will play for armour next year.

So why were they registered as a Virginia team if they were SAC? Any ideas?

I didn’t say they were all SAC. Just some of the top notch players on that team. At least four of their starters are SAC. Their striker is nobody I have seen in VA or DC or from Maryland. He looks like he is about 6’ tall with a ton of skill.

On top of the SAC players there were some Achilles and Paragon players, not sure about the rest. It seems like this team doesn’t really play leagues in the regular season, just makes all-star guest teams for tournaments. I could be wrong. But, for a group of kids who normally don’t play together to win the top division at Supercopa is impressive for sure.

It was second division (they lost their first match 6-2) but really impressive nonetheless. I totally agree. The backbone of that team has been together for a long time but it is still very hard to make that happen with a number of other players who don’t play with you on a regular basis. That may explain their only loss.

Those “assistant” coaches are actually parents of some of the players and for the most part don’t set a good example for the official coach.
