Most people who are paid salaries work until the job is done and dont whine about having to work on the weekends or at night or not being able to take off as much time as they'd like, and nearly all of those people don't get to take summers off either. |
jfc I just read that article. the mayor needs to use whatever power she has to force the charters to reopen. my jaw dropped at Roots charter (30% homeless) staying closed, and the quotes from anti-vax parents. There’s a point where the government just needs to step in. |
Every Wednesday or instead of a whole day off for students it'd be a half day? Either one is a no for me. |
Woooooow such hard evidence. |

DCPS is routinely ranked as among the worst public school systems in the country, despite D.C. spending more per student than anywhere but New York.
Given that, maybe teachers here need to be working more, not less. |
DCPS also has the one of the lowest teacher retention rates because despite the decent money no one wants to stay working here. And despite spending money on students to pay staff, they never offer actual PD's, support, and constantly cut budgeting for schools. So maybe you should shut your ignorant mouth. |
Nah, that's white DC moms. |

The Wed pd is not time off so
I am not sure why we are even having a discussion about that. During Professional development teachers are working learning new strategies to apply to their lesson etc. it’s common sense they if teachers do not have the needed knowledge and tools then they can’t be effective. Research supports this as well. I don’t live in dc yet but am moving. Parents on these thread speak horribly about DCPS but when a solution is presented that change support teaching and learning you go on attack mode! The majority of teachers work hard and they deserve the pay they get. If you are not a teacher you have no clue. By the way teachers have to plan lessons and grade outside of the typical school day hours and on weekends. Now with being thrown into remote learning with very minimal training teachers need even more support because technology has revolutionized education even pass COVID it will. I speak from being an highly effective teacher in NYC public schools. You people on here need to get a grip. |

I was honestly worried about what the folks on this board would fight about in 2021-2022. Now I know! Thank you ladies!
To the actual OP- no, it’s not true. And I kind of suspect you knew that before you even asked. Carry on… |
I am dubious of a half-day PD arrangement, but IF it's going to happen, it seems like Fridays would be a far better day. It's much easier to volunteer to help out with something like a Friday field trip than smack in the middle of the work week. |
The number of people who would make it a three day weekend would be enormous |
Yep, entitled for expecting to have public schools that exist IRL. Just like in every non-failed-state around the world. Aside: is it really helpful to type out divisive comments like this? |
Did you see what the person was responding to? |
I did. No excuse for this racist response. |
