Kiss-ass parents

Oh is that what I’ve been failing to do all these years ? Cheaper than paying for private training.

Besides everybody knowing about it, is there anything wrong with two adults sleeping with each other so long as it's with consent?

But yeah was this when he was still with SYC and not yet at LMVSC?

If your kid is good enough, works hard, and has the right attitude, they will get a shot. It might not be at the best team in the area (clearly McSYC United--pronounced "micksick"), but they will get a chance somewhere. Not all players are a good fit for all coaches. Sucks if your kid isn't a good fit for the team right near your house--but oh, well. Every upper middle-income schmo posting on this board was able to afford their McMansion because of someone that they or their daddy knew. Welcome to planet earth.

ummm, you are clearly wrong about affording the house. Husband was dirt poor with a single mom working 3 jobs in the midwest and my parents were barely middle class.

GRIT and HARDWORK with intelligence and talent are why we now own 2 homes in the best zipcodes in the DMV.

Were either of these 2 married? If so, yeah, it's definitely wrong, very, very very wrong.

Wow a lot of manager bashing on this board. I don’t think you all realize how much they do.

Lots of behind the scenes work especially this year with covid waivers etc. On game day, the manager has at least two, maybe more, jobs - give the roster/game card to the ref, show player cards, make sure everyone has the right color jersey, and maybe report score. That’s it. A lot of other stuff comes up too.

The manager’s job is to make the coach’s job easy - they shouldn’t have to deal with the administrivia. Not sure why managers are talking to the coaches during the game. Definitely not their job.

Is there really anything wrong with bringing the coach a cup of coffee on a cold, rainy morning? Just don’t go asking for playing time, or a position, or to get moved up.

Let your kid earn it all. That will mean so much more to them.

I’m a team manager and wish someone else would take the job; it’s a thankless job. I don’t lobby for special privileges for my son — and one doesn’t have to be a team manager to do that kind of thing anyway.

Our Team manager's kid is in the lower tier... will that keep him from being pushed down a level?

You are an idiot and know nothing about most of the people around you. I did not know my father and my mom was on AFDC. I am where I am for many reasons, but chiefly because I have been doing circles around almost everybody my whole life in school or work. Grow up and stop making excuses for your own shortcomings, of which I am sure there are many.

Yawning over here...but then again, a hit dog is gonna holler.

The point remains that in football, as in all aspects of life, who you know matters. Zidane's kid probably didn't "deserve" the shot he got at Real, and Messi's kids didn't "earn" their spots at La Masia. But high-level football is an equalizer and everyone eventually ends up where they should be.

In another post, a single mom is dating the coach. I’m surprised no one is saying that she is literally a “kiss-ass parent”. LOL

I doubt it. I was asked to be the team manager after the child of another parent (who was the manager the year before) was moved down a level. So clearly, at least in that case, the fact that the parent was the manager did not prevent the player from being moved down a level (nor should it have).

There was one tournament last fall where I guess being manager had a perk -- no parents were allowed on the field as spectators because of COVID, but coaches, assistant coaches, and rostered managers were permitted. So I got a slightly better spot to stand during the game that one tournament. I'd gladly give up the job if someone else wanted it though.
