Agree.

Courtney was a very troubled, exploited teenager then and didn't have the ability to bring it up back then. Now Chrissy is complaining about being attacked on the internet and it's obviously going to piss off Courtney.

Objection overruled.

Courtney wants to be famous. She has always wanted to be famous. What’s the best and easiest way to get in name in the media. By harping on something that happened 10 yrs ago but someone who is now famous.

Truth.

Chrissy was already famous 10 years ago.

She really wasn’t. She wasn’t nowhere as popular as she is now.

Why is this relevant at all? Chrissy is the mother to a daughter now, maybe she can finally see how gross her past behavior was. Courtney is the victim and her timing and motives don't matter given how horribly she was treated.

It’s relevant bc Courtney has been trying to get her name out there for years. Actually, I just looked Courtney up again and the pronouns are they/them. They have wanted to be famous and in the media. So They has been trying to get Chrissy canceled so they can have the media circulating. They motives are quite clear.

Her motives aren’t relevant. Sorry.

Maybe not to you. But on other social media outlets they are. Sorry.

“Other social media outlets”

You laugh but go back a few pages. Someone posted about being so confused why lots of other ppl didn’t see this as a big deal.

Actually Twitter was a dumpster fire. People keep getting canceled for their past tweets.

I’ve been on Twitter since it first became popular. I don’t recall ever seeing many tweets encouraging others to kill themselves. And the nastiest tweets are almost always from anonymous randos. This has never been normal or acceptable behavior even on Twitter.

Then you weren’t following anyone or actually active. Twitter was a known dumpster fire from the beginning. The difference was no one was doing searches for old tweets.

Sure Twitter was full of trash. But it mostly wasn’t people telling each other to kill themselves. Come on. Nobody is buying what you’re trying to sell.

And even if it was full of sadistic murderous people, that in no way makes telling people to kill themselves acceptable.

Don’t have to sell anything. The horrible tweets resurfacing from multiple people sell themselves. People who were actually on Twitter know how horrible people were. No one has said it was acceptable. However, acting like Twitter wasn’t a place for hate, bullying, and racism is ridiculous.

Who else got in trouble on Twitter for telling someone to kill themselves? According to you, it happened all the time, so I’m sure you can produce plenty of names to share with us. Right?

Nope. According to me people keep getting canceled for their past tweets. Nice try though.

As she should. I was disappointed and offended by Roman’s comments. She paid a high price for those comments and essentially torpedoed her career. I felt badly for Teigen at the time, a producer of Roman’s show. Teigen seemed genuinely stung and understandably so. But what a hypocrite, wow. History of bullying and harassing women. No, thank you.

roman’s comments were totally overblown - cancel culture at its worst. but in teigen’s defense, she actually didn’t join the cancellation attempts. but anyway last laugh is on tiegen because her recipes suck, but alison roman’s are genuinely really good. roman’s cancellation was part of a broader wave of cancellations within the food media world and of course hers was more bitter and vicious because it’s always easier to go after a young, successful liberal white woman for saying something wrong than it is to address actual issues. her cancellation was about social media mobs and jealousy.

Absolutely not. Her food is bland and boring like her.

All of the recipes of hers I’ve made have been really good. I cook and read recipes a lot so I know what I’m talking about. But thanks for confirming that this is about attacking her personally and not about the bona fides of the situation. Alison Roman losing her job because of some snarky musings vs Teigan’s vicious harassment of a vulnerable teen are completely different scales.

Let's not get into Alison Roman. As an Indian woman, I find her appropriation of ethnic food into random "stews" pretty gross (and the recipes suck, too)

anyone can make a chickpea stew. basic ingredients aren’t “appropriation” - if that were true we couldn’t use tomatoes, potatoes, or black pepper in the US. but yeah sure, Alison Roman publishing a stew recipe with garbanzo beans and coconut milk is totally the same as online bullying of teenage girl and telling her to kill herself.

and btw, the stew has like 16,000 5-star reviews on the NYTimes websites. She’s a good recipe writer. That’s in fact why people attack her, because social media hates successful young women or young women who attract attention at all.

Bland people like bland food. Is this a foreign concept to you?

Plenty of successful young women. She wasn’t original or interesting.

the fact that you call it “bland” kind of reinforces that she wasn’t trying to literally duplicate an Indian recipe- it had a different flavor profile. But thanks yet again for showing thid is about being mad she is popular in the wrong way, and not about anything she actually did.

Not that poster. You are speaking with multiple people who find Alison uninteresting. Only thing being shown is that no one really cared about Alison being canceled bc she wasn’t good at what she was doing anyway. Stay mad though.

I remember when Courtney was all over the media and people were pretty ruthless. She was on Jezebel quite a lot and I just did a search and saw she was talking about bullying back then, including someone telling her to kill herself, it may have been Chrissy, though I wouldn't be surprised if there were others.

There were definitely others. However, randos won’t give her the boost in the media she wants.

What is your deal? Why are you supporting a bully and mean spirited person who attacks children? You should be appalled. It's curious you aren't.

What is your deal? Realizing people have numerous motives and don’t fit into a neat box is life. Courtney isn’t a child anymore. She very much has made it clear she wants to be famous. No one is excusing Chrissy bc what she said was uncalled for. I am appalled at both of these women. It’s curious you aren’t.

Got it. You are victim blaming. Courtney isn’t pure enough to warrant empathy.

If all you’ve been trying to say is that sometimes people get cancelled for old tweets, then you’re not adding anything of value to this conversation. I think everyone is already aware that sometimes people receive backlash due to past tweets. It’s not an interesting or novel thought.

I think Teigan felt empowered to be nasty because she was young and beautiful and starting to get positive attention in the industry, and she had probably observed that being “the hot girl” often affords some women a lot of leeway in their behavior. I sometimes wonder if women who do stuff like this are testing their powers. Like if you can tell some child on Twitter to kill herself and no one says anything, that’s how you know you’re really pretty and popular.

I remember this dynamic from when I was younger. Sometimes the pretty, mean girls would get this gleam in their eye, like “I wonder if anyone is going to call me on this because I know I’m being terrible!” And then if no one did, or even better, if someone called them out and people rushed to her defense: triumph.

It is a really, really upsetting dynamic and as someone who has been bullied in a similar way, it feels absolutely devastating. Because it’s not just whatever the mean girl is saying about you. It’s all the people standing around agreeing, or at least not intervening. It’s essentially being shamed and shunned and you feel completely powerless and it can absolutely make you contemplate suicide. I started self-harming when it happened to me.

It’s really harmful behavior. Teigan should hold herself accountable, especially knowing what she knows now about mental health (and having experienced online bullying herself).

+1. Interesting perspective that I hadn’t really thought about.

+ 2.
