Very happy the administration is staying the course this time. Looking forward to learning the identity of the people behind that anonymous letter.

Maybe they will toss us from the school but I just gave them an earful in the final comment box for the survey. the school should have been hybrid from day one, and should stay open after thanksgiving.

We put that down as well. If they don’t go back to hybrid or in person by mid January we’re cutting bait. Lower schools - plenty of options, plenty of other places to live.

What if it had succeeded? Like the tantrum thrown previously succeeded. Methods matter. I wouldn’t gloss over it. Some discussion, reflecting and reconciliation is helpful.

That’s the best news I heard the whole day! Thank you. So much to look forward to in January...

+2. Please tell everyone you know there to respond to the survey and be as candid as you’ve been here. We have to get the attention of the administration. From many years experience at the school with 3 kids, this is the only thing they will listen to. Not parent “voices,” unfortunately.

100%. and to have reconciliation you need to know who was behind it. those people should step up and identify themselves, no one will hold it against them, these are fraught times. But if we go through the gossiping and grapevine while those people refuse to own it they will end up much more stigmatized.

Awesome. Hope you like your new school. You sure you’re not leaving ‘cause your boss will be booted from
the WH? BTW, you’re not the only ones filling out the survey.

But surely they did? Or did the anonymously present an anonymous petition with 200 Anons on it? No way?!

This is laughably crazy. Who cares??!! Move on. Some parents asked for their kids to be able to learn on campus like other schools are doing in December. All teachers and families can choose. Request was denied predictably. And you think we need reconciliation? For what?
Anonymous
Teachers can only choose because they, our children and the rest of us stood up to the questionable values and methods during the first U-turn forced by a group of parents. Since then, there’s not been one occasion where someone doesn’t bring up how many of their DC teachers are teaching remotely. What’s laughably crazy is middle aged people coming up with anonymous petitions anonymously signed by anonymous people and trying over and over again to ignore the reality of the pandemic.
Anonymous
Exactly. The problem is that every time we agree to something, everyone’s quiet and we think we reached a consensus. Then a stunt is pulled that may or may not work, but is sure to be an enormous sink of everyone’s energy, admin’s time, and school resources.

Here’s the survey that led to the writing of the anon. petition:

One reality of the pandemic is that the virus is not spreading in schools that have more basic mitigations strategies in place than Sidwell does. Have you read the data? There is a lot out there. It is in the WaPo today. Sidwell has had success itself being open. So yes, the reality of December was being ignored in the petition, but not the reality of how schools are faring. What is your own agenda?
Anonymous
My only agenda is to be respectful of every single member of our community. Also, I’d like to meet my goals of not being stupid and being on the right side of history when the time comes. At the current R and lack of any action in DC, school outbreaks are a real possibility in December. So the way I figure my agenda and goals would be best served is by not trying to find out the hard way and by not screaming to reopen the school when we all agreed differently.
