Covid at SFS

Anonymous wrote:“these "Karens" pay salaries and donate to all the funds that keep the school operating--it is not just husbands who have the money, folks” It’s an unfortunate term and no place here, but I think deep down it’s a state of mind that’s at issue not so much gender (I would bet men were involved); also this statement is worse than the letter. You’d be surprised to find how little it would matter if you left: there are many less entitled people happy to pay the school fees and contribute to the annual fund who don’t think our excellent school and teachers are in their servitude. What is wrong with you?!

Nothing is wrong with me, thank you. I am simply pointing out that women who are both emotionally and (heavily) financially invested in their child's education have the right to speak up respectfully without being called Karen. What is wrong with you?

Umm ... by that logic, do the scholarship mothers have less/no right to speak up? What about teachers? Those should be pass/fail question on the parents admittance interview to our school.

For your own sake, I hope you examine your values. It’s not about left and right at all, you can be of any political persuasion, but it is about the right and wrong.

Correction: “financial aid mothers”.

Sidwell does not give out scholarships, only need-based financial aid.

You are not speaking up respectfully when you treat teachers as your employees. And you are not speaking up respectfully when you attack our students for having a point of view. Always encouraged and welcomed everyone to speak up respectfully. So what’s wrong with my world right now is honestly just you.

Violating the school handbook rules and harvesting email addresses from the directory and then spamming parents anonymously is not being respectful. Are they some of the same parents who threatened the administration that they would stage a public protest and call the press if the school did not accede to their demands and start hybrid mode?

Surprised no one has pitched Netflix on a fictionalized version of all this privileged drama...maybe even throw in some politicians’ kids to spice things up...

Very happy the administration is staying the course this time. Looking forward to learning the identity of the people behind that anonymous letter.

Maybe they will toss us from the school but I just gave them an earful in the final comment box for the survey. the school should have been hybrid from day one, and should stay open after thanksgiving.

Why do you want to learn the identity of those parents? Are you trying silence them, terrorize them?

I’d still love to see the letter and by how many/how it was signed.

NP. Not at all. Just marveling at the idea of an anonymous petition — haven’t seen that anywhere, wouldn’t fly even in a totalitarian regime. The school must reopen at all cost folk are the only ones that might be threatening and terrorizing anyone, although I don’t see it that way. I see a group of parents who are inexperienced in diplomatic ways, and probably feeling both frightened and entitled at the same time about their children’s prospects of getting into a good college, which clouded their judgement. Some may come from cultures where group-think, classism and servitude are par for the course

Qualification: don’t care who the instigators are but would love to see a petition letter and the stats — how many unique parent signatures and what % anonymous and how do you prove that?

Prob the same type of folk who made Obama stop coaching ‘cause it wasn’t fair to their kids. They’re now immortalized in his new book

If this is coming from a school employee, this is disturbing. I hope it is not.

Apparently about 200 people signed.

How would you know it wasn’t signed multiple times by the same people? That’s why petitions are never anonymous. Each year there are lawsuits in ANC elections here about questionable signatures. Give me a break on a school employee. If not, then it’s a student or a spouse? And what was the point on the parents receiving need-based financial aid - that they don’t matter as much? I hope you don’t mean any of that. If you do, just stop. No one has silenced or threatened anyone - that’s not in anyone’s playbook except if it’s true those who threatened to go to the press. If anything, the school bent over backwards to accommodate everyone. Just stop.

What? Doesn’t the school know that? Or was it anonymously presented to them too? Good heavens.

I can’t even understand where you got any of this. No one said anything about certain parents not mattering; in fact quite the opposite. All parents are invested in the school and have the right to speak up. The reading comprehension on this thread is abysmal. The petition was doomed to fail so who even cares about it at this point?
