I want to be Mormon

LDS women have been bothered by this for YEARS. I'm glad the dads are finally complaining about it; that means leadership might actually listen. The bishops also interview grown men and women and ask about their sexual practices. This is part of getting a temple recommend. If you and your spouse are willing to discuss your sexual habits with some dude who is not a licensed counselor in exchange for (literally) learning the secret handshake, you need to reexamine your marriage and consider why you're willing to do this.

But, you cannot get into the Celestial Kingdom without a temple recommend! It's a catch-22.

Sexual relations are only supposed to be for reproduction. Donny Osmond talked about this openly on Howard Stern. He has never gotten a BJ nor has he ever performed oral sex. He has had to tell this to his various bishops over the years to maintain his temple recommend.

I think you may be confusing Mormons for Catholics. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (aka Mormons), sex is not only allowed but encourage outside of reproduction. "sexual relations within marriage are divinely approved not only for the purpose of procreation, but also as a way of expressing love and strengthening emotional and spiritual bonds between husband and wife."

No, Donny Osmond was not talking about Catholics.

Eats healthy. I hate drinking and smoking and I’m kind of a prude and I love simple lives that center around family. LOVE the Mormon emphasis on family and just the general wholesome and “clean” vibe they give off. But I definitely can’t become Mormon bc I don’t believe in the actual religion part of it, haha. I wish there were like...Mormonism for non Mormons.

I know this probably doesn’t make sense. Does anyone else feel like this?

No who wants to join a cult? That marries off their daughters to get more cult members? Who actually sends out young girls to recruit young men? Who uses religion so Marriott does not have to pay all their taxes. Who doesn't let mothers see their children get married if they are not mormon?

Two Mormon girls came to my door once. Did not notice our camera. The recording was so interesting. One dumb girl to the next "hey, if it's a male that comes to the door twirl your hair around your finger" etc......

Oh my! This is ME!!! I want to go inside their pretty church too -- the real one, the temple, in SLC. But, yeah, don't actually believe any of it so I would be a BAD mormon!

Agree. And also there are a fair amount of Mormons who are Mormon in name/culture only but who do not actually believe like the True Believing Mormons simply because of this fact

An apostate (aka—a believer who no longer believes —or someone who “lost their testimony”) is just about the worst thing you can be in the Mormon community. So those who have “lost their testimony” just keep it to themselves if they want to continue to be in the fold. And it’s really really hard to openly reject the teachings and stay part of the group. You literally lose the privilege to go to temple and family events like weddings(!) because they are sacred and require a Temple recommend.

All this aside, I could also easily be LDS if I didn’t have to believe the Joseph Smith story or wear the undergarments or go through the temple ceremonies pretending not to know that Joseph smith adapted them directly from Masonic rituals and just rebranded them. I can UN-know that info, so I wouldn’t be a very good TBM.

I’d actually amend this to say “with anyone” bc it’s no one’s business.
And what you’ve done here is removed one person that has no authority in YOUR culture (a bishop, who DOES have that authority in theirs) and replaced “qualified individual” in secular culture. But if you step back from your own bias, you’ll see that its still simply another person who meets a set of qualification criteria that you find acceptable.

No one should feel compelled to disclose this information to anyone. But I suppose if grown adults are putting themselves through this, they are doing so because their values hierarchy ranks getting a temple recommend above withholding personal information. And that’s up to them to decide.

I mean, I'm already pretty much that way. It would just be nice to have a large community around me with similar beliefs and a close sense of connection.

Do you like being constantly pregnant? Do you want your daughters to be brood mares?

Whatever. They’ll be out-populating all of us in a few years. Meanwhile the last laugh will be on all the rest of us who line up for the Gates’-funded population control vaccines all the “shout your abortions” we can handle.

They’re super nice unless you’re you know GAY. The Mormon church is the reason why gay marriage wasn’t legalised the first time around in California. The paid millions in ads and propaganda. Disgusting, good loooking people.

I’m not sure I understand your point, but there are people who have actually gone to school and gotten advanced degrees in order to become licensed counselors. If you have a need to discuss your sexual issues, seek out one of these people. Don’t go to a guy who is a dentist by day and bishop by night, no matter how great he is or how much fun your kids have with his at the ward BBQ. He’s had no specific training and in a lot of cases, will either give terrible advice or overlook the kind of abuse that a mandatory reporter would act on. The church has a bad track record with regard to both. If you don’t think you need to discuss this stuff with anyone, you shouldn’t be compelled to do so in exchange for anything, including a temple recommend.

Well then he is confused/unsure of what the official beliefs put out by his religion are.

This is an oft-repeated statement and it’s just...not true. General Conference is coming up in a few weeks. Look at the people speaking and tell me they’re more attractive than the average UMC white person. They aren’t. Or, look at videos of church services on YouTube. Same thing. There are a couple exceptions like the silver fox Dieter Uchdorf, and the classically handsome Mitt Romney, but that’s rare. The ones who put their families on blogs have money and hang out with other well groomed white people, usually with some plastic surgery and heavy filters involved.
