Bangles and sarees don't have the same associations with the repression that a repressive burqa does. Men wearing suits in high heat is not to be associated with women wearing burqas. When I was living in a Muslim country, I abided by the local laws. I wore clothes that covered my shoulders and knees. I didn't wear halter and tank tops even though it was really hot. I agree that tolerance should be taught, but you need to draw a line somewhere. The US government imposes restrictions on domestic polygamist beliefs of a religious sect (Mormons). If you don't draw a line somewhere, then there will be religions that advocate having sex with children. Freedom must have its limits. |
