Why is DJT so obsessed with pushing hydroxychloroquine?

There is a trial right now testing Hydroxychloroquine in early stages. I really hope that we learn it works. It would be wonderful to get your easily accessible and rapid result Covid 19 test, and you are handed a simple drug or two and that’s that.
But what Trump is pushing is potentially false hope and at worst encouraging dangerous behavior.

It’s not false hope. It works for most patients. The mechanism for how it works is even understood. This isn’t witchcraft, ok? This is science.

If it works for most patients then why are 21000 Americans dead?

Unlikely any of these dead received HCQ right after they were diagnosed. If they received it at all it would have been after they were hospitalized at which point, most agree, one is past the optimal time to administer.

A number of states allow HCQ only for hospitalized patients.

Upthread Michigan is mentioned.

Because one state banned it, 21000 people around the country died? Why haven't other countries without similar bans defeated coronavirus? Still waiting for source that the drug is "works for most patients".

You are arguing two things.

First: Someone said it works for most people and you want a source. I am not that PP and perhaps she can answer.

Second: You appear to think each and everyone of these 21000 people who died received HCQ. They simply didn't--there are many doctors who are skeptics and don't prescribe it. There are other doctors who might prescribe it but the state requires a positive test and testing is not widely available or takes days to process. There are others who will give it as only as a Hail Mary pass for patients doing poorly, when like most anti-virals such as Tamiflu, they need to be taken quickly after symptoms begin to be effective.

I don't think this. I have no data on this. You don't either.

No one knows how effective it is because the current studies on are small and weak. That is my entire point. But, in the absence of reliable data, I can observe that alot of people have died in spite of Trump touting HCO's benefits on the public stage.

Is this not a huge problem with Trump's HCO obsession by itself? Why is Trump touting a drug treatment when people can't even be tested for the illness? What good is a miracle cure if it can't be prescribed because you can't be diagnosed because you can't be tested?

If it works for most patients then why are 21000 Americans dead?

This. The only - ONLY - countries that have effectively and swiftly mitigated C19 have been aggressive in using tests to direct public health approaches and quarantines. WTF are we not able to get this right?!?

Since you seem slow, let me explain:

If hydroxochloroquine was promising, it would be fast tracked and would be lessening severity of illness and death in studies. The current studies I have seen do not look promising. The drug is old, but it has really bad side effects and is not consistently helping.

Trump is using this drug as a deflection and distraction technique. If you look at one hand, you don’t notice what he’s doing with the other.

Trump is a conman.

The only thing this video (from the Trump bootlicker Dennis Prager) illustrates is how much many ordinary people hate trump.

Restricting it to in-patient care isn’t banning it...

It is to a degree. Reason being is the drug works by stopping viral replication. By waiting until the viral load is high enough to hospitalize someone, the virus might be bad enough at that point to kill regardless.

Do you wait until you go septic before you take antibiotics to stop bacteria from reaching your bloodstream, or do you take it early enough in the infection to stop that from happening?
