Any updates on Mclean/Langley possible redistricting?

And that’s understandable. But the alternative is continuing to whine about how overcrowded your school is when there’s a perfectly reasonable fix.

Why were McLean students recognized 30 times, and Langley students only four times, in the Scholastic Regional Writing Awards announced this week? Do Langley teachers just not encourage their students to participate?

I know Langley is wealthier, but it doesn't seem as if it's better in any way, besides the state of the building, that would make me welcome a redistricting.

The two high schools that dominated these awards were McLean and Oakton. My bet is that the award winners got used to entering competitions at Longfellow AAP and Carson AAP. Cooper has only had AAP a few years.

That seems plausible. Thank you (not sure why the other poster was so rude - :roll.

Nice try. Here are the results from 2019 - TJ clearly dominated, yet it looks like they didn’t participate at all in 2020. I guess that means they’re “not a good school.”

Besides which, you are grossly off-topic. Start a new thread if you simply want to brag.

Agree it is off topic, but this really means nothing. There are other contests. NCTE, for one.

Back to the boundary discussion, please.

All of Longfellow should continue to go to McLean and all of Cooper should continue to go to Langley. Since they’ve already expanded Longfellow to accommodate 1334 kids, they need to make the expansion of McLean a priority. Otherwise they’ll end up with a split feeder situation at Longfellow that people intensely dislike or empty space at LMS.

Boundary changes are premature until they have a real plan, not just a few maps.

I really think that the person attempting to stir up hostility is neither a Langley nor a McLean parent.

I’ve noticed one poster who gets triggered by any suggestion that people aren’t jumping at the chance to move to Langley. She needs to calm down. Most of what’s been posted on this thread is very consistent with the feedback at the community meetings held last December.

I’ve noticed exactly the opposite. There is one poster who continues to speak for the McLean community as a whole, insisting “we” don’t want to move to Langley. I’m in one of the neighborhoods which may be redistricted to Langley and what she keeps repeating couldn’t be further from the truth in our area. “We” - that is, my actual neighborhood - are excited about our kids possibly attending Langley. It’s been a very positive topic of conversation at bus stops and get-togethers. The bulk of the people who show up at these meetings are the ones against it. The rest of us are fine with it, so we see no need to protest.

What neighborhood is that? It seems like you’d want to step up and make your views known, since the parents and students who attended the community meetings and testified at the CIP hearing had many reservations.

Or maybe you’re trolling for Langley?

Hilarious.

Nope, sorry. But you must be the poster described above. Case in point.

I think PP was probably right, since you obviously dodged the question.

Some people were fine or even enthusiastic about moving to Langley until they realized their kids may end up among the 5% of Longfellow that goes to Langley instead of McLean. FCPS staff has ducked questions about the middle school plans, so people are worried they may be trading one ES split feeder for an even more lopsided one in MS.

DP who lives in western Fairfax. I don't know the details, but the middle school should go with the high school.
