If you had sex in high school...

Juniors and Seniors are different than 14/15 year olds. Seems perfectly normal at home, and abroad, to have sexual inter course at 16,17,18 years old. But, please, our girls need to be smart and choose wisely! And have fun!

It’s not ok to be promoting sex to these girls.

Who do you think is promoting anything? OP asked and people are answering. This wasn’t about parenting AT ALL until you busybodies showed up. Get lost. Or better yet, get f*cked.

Thank you. I thought I was the only one who thought that way

Let me just say that yours are the kids that go off to college and literally sleep with every moving thing.

Wrong. I know from experience. My parents told me everything I needed to know but also instilled good morals in me. I didn’t go sleeping around in college. And plenty of my friends are in the same boat.

I had the same upbringing and family. I had sex with my boyfriend at 16. We both went off to top schools (mine in England) and broke up. And came back together after graduation and have been happily married for 20 years.

No, I have no regrets at all.

This is dumb. I was an exchange student in 1986 and realized how prudish Americans were. Teach your kids their value and safe sex and stop trying to put a bonnet on them. That's why Europeans have far fewer abortions. They teach their kids instead of making some great moral issue. Sex at 17. I survived. I got married at 28, 2 normal kids.

You were an exchange student to one place and that gave you the thorough information to know that every other country has more sexually active teens than America? Gotcha. That may be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

That was all well and good, but he broke up with me towards the end of senior year and it messed me up for several years after that (probably a combo of the breakup, graduating and moving to a new place, losing that college community, and hitting real life all combined). In hindsight, I wish I had dated more in high school, and perhaps lost my virginity toward the end of it, and then dated more guys in college. My daughters are young, but I hope I have strength to be frank with them as they enter their teenage years, and to not make them ashamed of sex like I was brought up. But I still hope they wait 7ntil their later teens because emotionally I think it’s harder (for girls) younger. I kind of want them to get through that “first love” period sooner so they don’t miss out on meeting and dating (not necessarily having sex with them) lots of boys and men while they are young, single and in a period of life when there are plenty of potential partners to meet. That, to me, is the best way to figure out who you are and what YOU want, so that when you pick your life partner, you’re more likely to pick one that will last.

Just flagging that girls can also be into and date and have sex with girls. I am bi. I was closeted for a long time and wish I got more experience with girls before I met my now husband.

Just saying, if you're going to be open with your daughter and accepting, be accepting of all possibilities.

PP here, and you’re absolutely right. My girls seem to be into boys so it’s just what I assumed for going forward, but you’re absolutely right that they could express interest in girls too (or instead of boys), and yes we will be accepting. Didn’t mean to imply there was only one option. But either way, I hope they do a lot of dating to find out who they are, and what they want in a long-term relationship while they’re young.

I didn’t say where I was an exchange student or how many countries I went to. Nor did I say which continent I went to. Really?

I suspect most UMC kids are more likely to commit suicide than to get pregnant from premarital sex.

Yes, fewer kids are having sex these days. And fortunately it’s easier to get contraceptives (and more options).

What are you picturing, we're putting up billboards advertising it? This is a biological imperative we're talking about; it doesn't need to be promoted to anyone. The only question is whether it can be contextualized in such a way that it doesn't cause harm. Survey says yes.

you need to take this line of thinking over the relationship forum and shut down the harpies who are perfectly fine not having sex with their spouses.

Same here. Had no desire to get a STD, saw a friend get Herpes and that was enough for me.

JFC I’ve never had a STD. Safe sex education will tell you how to have sex without pregnancy or disease. Sex is not immoral.

My good friend is a Obgyn these kids don’t consider oral and some cases anal as true sex aka losing their virginity. But STDs are in fact on the rise again.
