Agree! J n o talking about other players - I touchy this was already set in stone?! |
No talking about players- this was already set in stone |
Honestly anyone who is deciding to stay or leave will, in most cases, do so based on role and minutes played. And this is no different than any other club. If you decide to leave and are interested in playing in college that is risky depending on the players age and the likely role on the next team. |
MU parent. To reply to PP -- I would argue that some players get a lot of play time who might not at other clubs and vice versa. Can't say I always understand what is happening from the sideline. So it may or may not be risky to leave depending on which side of that line a player is on.... |
| Look, the club will make it through the spring. It’s not dying off as some wanted or hoped. If people like it they’ll stay if not they’ll go. And others, if they don’t like what they see from the outside they won’t come to tryout. Simple. But that’s another problem for another day. Until there’s a notification saying the club has folded then spring is on and if they have ID sessions so is next fall. |
Gas lighting is still in fashion I see. |
Maybe I didn't understand the question. I had been thinking this was about next year, not the spring of 2020. |
Exactly. If your player is getting lots of minutes there is simply less incentive to leave. If your player is not getting enough minutes then greener pastures may be more appealing if the promise of more minutes will be achieved. This has been the equation for a millennia at the end of every season. |
ID Session dates are posted: https://metroutd.org/metro-united-announcing-id-sessions-for-2020-2021-season/ |
Wow, most of those ID sessions are in MD. Or at least not in Reston. Doubling down on the non-GF player pool? |
Expanding into an un-served geographic area. |
But does that mean they start training there too? Then it creates the same thing FCV people have angst about.... where is your player pool vs. your training location and how far do most people drive each day. Is it practical to get to practice at rush hour, etc. |
Excellent question. Tysons is likely the best middle ground. |
For the players I know of that left, most have had buyer's remorse. The grass isn't always greener on the other side. I know of one that is happy and thriving. At the end of the day, everyone has to do what they feel is right and then hope for the best. We stayed and are glad we did. Most of the problems from last year are markedly better, and she likes her team and overall environment. As a parent, I see her happy and she has also gotten a lot better. And yes, the fact she gets to play a ton of minutes is a factor for both. She's getting better because MU is doing a better job than Spirit did as an organization, and she's getting better by being given a lot of play time and game experience. Training is great, but it really helps when you get time on the field to implement what is being taught against players you don't know. In training, you come to know your teammates and their moves so well. |
Those that I know who left I think are happy. But they all had individual reasons as well as the overall club problems that have been well documented. But, with youth soccer people come and go and you tend to wish folks well. |
