If DCPS added the kids currently IB for SWW Middle School in with the kids currently zoned for Cardozo, there would be a large and high-performing group with rights to attend Cardozo MS. Making SWW a PK-5 school would also allow more space for other grades, so there would be more PK slots WOTP and more kids graduating each year to move on to Cardozo.
With this change and a motivated principal assigned just to the middle schoolers at Cardozo, I think it could see a rapid increase in enrollment, test scores, and desirability. |
The middle school would not improve because many SWW families would bail. Sorry that your genius idea actually turned out to be a dud. |

Ross bailed in the last redistricting. Very strategic.
Where do the kids at Seaton/Garrison ultimately end up? Is there a way to find out that info? |
It is not published. There was a very old data set that a researcher was given and made some Sankey charts, but it is about 10 years out of date. In my experience, inspired Teaching and Two Rivers are popular. Or moving away is also popular. DCPS seems determined to ignore pleas for a middle school where grade level content is mastered, so... |

Aren't they making the old Banneker building into a middle school? If that isn't the plan, couldn't it be? |
The Council reserved that building and funded a feasibility study, but DCPS has made no commitments. Sometimes I feel like giving these parents the finger is a political move for Bowser. |
They wouldn't all bail. Cardozo won't become Deal but it might get to par with Stuart Hobson. Sorry that the most realistic option for improvement is unpalatable to you so you'll be stuck with the status quo and wind up bailing yourself. |
As long as it is colocated with a high school, they will bail. There is absolutely no way that status quo with re-vamped boundaries is enough. |
Ya think? |
It is also a hazard just walking down the street these days, in Shaw. Columbia Heights, too. |
Banneker the HS is moving into that site so I heard, or it was mentioned somewhere. The question is what will the old Banneker bldg. be used for. |
| I think it is still being decided. The new central MS will either be at the old Banneker or the Patterson building on U Street. Both designs looked great. |
