Look at a map. That's Germantown in all but zip code. There's a tiny corner of the 20841 zip code that sticks out into Germantown, not quite to Germantown Road. I mean, if you (or they) want to say that they live in Boyds, that's fine, but most people think of it as Germantown. |
I have no dog in this fight as I don't live there. Just telling you what that postal office says. It's Boyds. Whether or not others think it should be Germantown instead of Boyds isn't really relevant. |
You know what, as long as you get the numeric zip code right, the post office doesn't really care what word you put next to MD. You can address mail to Silver Spring, 20902 or Wheaton 20902 and it will get there. I'm sure you can send it to Boyds, 20841 or Germantown, 20841 and it will get there. There are places in this country where towns are towns and have actual borders and it matters what town you live in. Maryland is not one of those places. We have municipalities with defined borders (City of Rockville, Town of Kensington, etc) and we have large swaths of "unincorporated County" that people can argue forever about what they should be called. Much of the unincorporated eastern county is "Silver Spring" from downtown Silver Spring to much further north. There is no official right/wrong about these things. It's like fruits and vegetables. There's no official distinction, it's just how people think of them that matters (and sometimes people disagree). |

I was too dumb and poor to go to Wootton and even I know ther cheer so you don’t spell it wrong. “Double you double oh double Tee O N |
This made me laugh and spit out my water, as I know this terrible cheer too. |
| Well, Walter Johnson is leagues below the other three. |
I think you meant catty-cornered, lol.

Oooh, I love sweeping generalizations. Care to share the facts & figures to back up such a well thought out, informed statement? |
|
Why does anyone care what label people who live in the neighborhood give to themselves?
And those who are so quick to label the Ws as wealthy and white, do realize how offensive and bigoted you are? You are no better than those you claim (although I've never actually heard it from a W parent) refer to other schools in offensive ways. |
Oh, FFS. We can easily look these statistics up! To claim that the W schools are not generally more wealthy and have a higher proportion of white kids than most other schools in the county is just laughable. This isn't fake news, it's facts. |

Apparently, kitty-corner and caddy-corner are about even in usage.

Whitman HS: 67% white, <5 FARMs Churchill HS: 50% white, <5 FARMs Wootton HS: 44% white, <5 FARMs Walter Johnson HS: 54% white, 8% FARMs My kid's high school: 20% white, 27% FARMs My kid's friend's high school: 8% white, 50% FARMs MCPS high school population overall: 30% white, 27% FARMs Now, what were you saying? |
When I dig into the actual data, I get the sense that it's actually better in many ways. |
HAHAHAHA! This is a joke right? These schools are predominately white and Asian to the point that they seem segregated. And just FYI we hear non-stop smug condescension from W parents on these boards. Sure, can't say all of them spout the same old tired drivel but many of them do. |
