I don't think you read the report. |

Hitting the news today: this detailed and credible account by the former Papal Nuncio to the US of Pope Bendict's and Pope Francis's actions surrounding McCarrick. It is a bleak, bleak picture.
He calls on Pope Francis to resign. https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/4784141/TESTIMONYXCMVX-XENGLISH-CORRECTED-FINAL-VERSION.pdf |
| I am wondering if there are any prominent / celebrity Catholics who have commented on the scandal, their decision to stay or leave the church, etc. anyone know? |
| Non-Atheists are discouraged in the celebrity world. Those with religious beliefs are mocked, just like on most of DCUM. |
Oh right — Christian persecution. /s |
I absolutely read the report. |

And now US Catholic orphanages - all forms of abuse and murder.

It's disgusting. We thought it was just the priests: it was the nuns, the laypeople that worked there: all of them raped, molested, forced into sex acts children. And our government won't prosecute. You stay in the Catholic Church: you give them money to continue doing this. Because they are, most definitely doing it in other countries. all of Africa, Asia: it's definitely happening. Perverts in playland. |

No.
Any other organizations that support, facilitate, and perpetuate the institutionalized and systemic rape of children you reconcile staying a part of? Just curious. |
You’ve posted this a million times over the past few days. People have rebutted your myopia and hate a million times over the last few days. Pointing out, for example, that you can effect change better by working from within rather than spewing hate anonymously from your keyboard. Or that they don’t want to defund the hospitals. We get it, your post above tries to justify your blind hatred for Catholics by claiming that any Catholic who stays is supporting pervert priests. You’re drooling over your dream that the Catholic Church mignt be annihilated. We all know that’s not going to happen. Isn’t it time to stop? We see through you. |
I am not the poster you are replying to, but just in case there is any doubt on your statement in bold that someone is "claiming that any Catholic who stays is supporting pervert priests": In my opinion, any Catholic who stays is supporting pervert priests. So you are correct. I do hate what the Church has done here. But it is not blind. My eyes are wide open. |
So you don’t accept the arguments from Catholics here that they can better fight for change from within, unlike you spewing venom on your keyboard? You don’t accept the argument that if hospitals are defunded, innocent people suffer and it’s not that easy to build massive new charity structures? How convenient for you. Now you can hate all Catholics without guilt. NOBODY views hatred like yours as a bigger problem than the pedophila and nuns hurting kids. But you’re proof that bigotry exists. / not a Catholic |
+1. I agree. You stay, you give them money, you enable them to continue. The money still pays for these people to live and retire in solitude. If you really wanted them to change, stop giving them your money and tell them to release the accused to law enforcement for charges. Tell them to take them off of the payrolls/retirement. Tell them to punish the perverts. But the reality is: that's not happening in this country. There will be no reparations. Your leaders aren't doing that: they're saying "I'm sorry, it was long ago in the past, please forgive us." And you're still staying. And you're still giving them money. And they're still doing it: Latin/South American has the highest concentration of Catholics and the scandals don't appear on our news feeds. But I'm sure they still happen. The system is broken. It's been broken for a long time. We're seeing fewer instances now, but it doesn't mean that your donations are going to good works. Your donations are still going to the feeding, the housing, the clothing of retired perverts. So you have implicitly forgiven them and that's what we say you're supporting the perverts. And when it happens again, you will still be a staunch Catholic, and you will still give them your soul. And that's you. As a former Catholic, it's not me. I cannot abide risking my soul to that kind of damnation. I sleep better at night now too, knowing that I don't support that. |
So, if hospitals are underfunded: why do popes wear Prada shoes? Why not just some Tom's? And maybe some austerity measures? Less luxurious meals? Maybe selling of some properties that are no longer useful? Why new robes? New gilded structures? There are other resources for hospitals. There are other religions (Methodists for one) that have hospitals and charity work. There are non-religious charities that work in creating hospitals too-- secular hospitals are everywhere as well-- it's called a hospital. It's not like Catholics have a monopoly on good deeds or building hospitals. They just happen to have a huge amount of pedo scandals unlike, oh, say Methodists. Or Humanists. Or Atheists. And I get you think this is hate. It's not. It's pointing out hypocrisy. Which feels like hate. But it's really just truth kicking you in the shins. Because there are plenty of other religions you can join and not be sullied by this. Catholicism does't have a monopoly on JC. /formerCatholic |
Don’t know about Prada shoes—is that even true, does he get them for free? But it’s obvious that you can’t pull money out of a massive global charity overnight and not hurt a lot of people. I’m sure the Methodists are doing great things, but it’s not like they can massively increase their scale in a few weeks. |
