Trump to widow of Sgt. La David Johnson: 'He knew what he signed up for'

It’s just that Trump summarizes and articulates in a way that is less than comforting.

I don't think anyone believes he said this in order to be an assh*le. He just *is* an assh*le.

Like someone else said - the people who love him love him. They are able to see the insane and weird and stupid things he does and find some way to make it all right, even though anyone else doing or saying the same thing would be correctly lambasted. For the rest of us, it's just another day in the disturbing world of living with this assh*le in charge.

The tweet from Trump about this seems to indicate that there is "proof."

Does anything? Integrity? Corruption? Using offshore and foreign labor?

So we know that there isn't proof. He has lied in exactly the same way before! So unoriginal.

Exactly.. the problem is that we have a POTUS who lacks any kind of empathy and has NPD. He's managed to insult almost every group, both domestic and internationally. He even managed to insult his own child when he said that he didn't want his son to be called Don Jr in case he turned out to be a loser. This is the kind of man he is.

It's one thing to make a policy mistake; it's another to just be a flat out a-hole.

+1, not to mention, since he has lied about virtually everything, he has zero credibility. So even if this was all a sham and that's not what he said to the widow, we have absolutely no reason to trust him.

I wonder what John Kelly thinks of his son being dragged through the political mud by Trump? Disgusting.

I know Kelly is staying in his position so he can monitor Trump, but how long can he sustain this?

Every time you get in a car, you sign up to be killed in a fatal car crash. If you go out in the evening, you sign up to be robbed and stabbed. Life is dangerous. We will all die. But it is beyond tactless to tell a dead soldier’s family that the soldier signed up for it, as through their agreement to serve our country makes them lesser people whose deaths are somehow less tragic than those of civilians.

Obviously he didn't intend to offend...or at least I haven't heard anyone suggest that his intent was to be a jerk.

It's just another indication that Trump lacks the basic skills to be a human being, which really is part of the job.

I think that. I think he thought he could, given that the deceased is AA.

And I have to say, when I was a young woman and deploying to Iraq, I was scared. When I tried to tell my family I was scared- looking for comfort- I was told, you knew what you signed up for. Okay, we all know what we signed up for in life. What is it about someone agreeing to serve that makes it impossible to be compassionate toward them? What the hell is wrong with you people? If you had a kid, and the kid got cancer and died, should I tell you that you understood the risks of parenting? No, I should give you my condolences like a normal human being. The reality is that anyone who says “you signed up for it” is saying they view you as unworthy of empathy, less than human, etc.

Thank you for your service, sincerely. I am sorry that your family was unable to empathize with your fear.

Well, then Trump shouldn't complain about him being criticized by people. This is what he signed up for - when you become the leader of the US, you get criticized. So stop your whining you big baby.
