Just finished a nice Cuban cigar on the screen in porch and no wife to complain about it. I love my life!

No. It makes me sick. I'm not rich and I don't try to convince people that I am, so for me it has nothing to do with that. I get headaches and the smell of smoke makes me nauseous. I probably do come across as irrational about smoking, but if it made you start to feel sick the minute you smelled it you'd probably get upset too. I literally start feeling anxiety when I have to breathe cigarette smoke. My son gets sick from it too. We have several smokers in my family and I can't stand visiting them because they stink. I love them because they are my family, but they stink and I avoid visiting them for very long because their homes stink and I need a shower and I have to wash laundry after coming home.

I had everyone to my house for Christmas and the smokers left cups with water and cigarette butts all over my patio. I had no idea. What a gross surprise I discovered while cleaning up after their visit. I'm glad they didn't litter, but they could have gotten rid of the cup of butts. Another reason why I think smokers are selfish and inconsiderate. Leaving that nasty mess for me to clean up after I hosted such a nice party for everyone. And the poor children of the smokers. Every time I hug my nieces & nephews I inhale the stench of stale cigarettes on their clothes and hair. Makes me sad that they don't get to wear clean smelling clothes ever.

You don't want your house to stink like your nasty clothes, hair and mouth stink like, so you want to smoke outside? Well guess what? Now MY house stinks because I opened my windows for some fresh air and smoke from your nasty ass cigarettes is blowing all through my house. You're a selfish, disgusting asshole. Go smoke in your house!!!

+1,000 Smokers are as inconsiderate as they are disgusting.

There used to be a lot of smokers in my building, so I ran for the board and now I'm the president of HOA. I had discussions with the non smoking neighbours and we plotted to make sure we had half the votes, then I sent out a notice that all owners had to vote yes or no for a smoking ban. We won by 3 votes. Put the ban in place and hired lawyers to change the CCRs of our building and registered it with the courts. Now ou can't smoke even in your own unit, because smoke would travel through the vents. No smoking anywhere on the property. The smokers ran for the board the next year and tried to change the ban but they couldn't. So they sold and moved... good riddance!

It's impossible to directly determine the cause of health issues. While smoking increases the likelihood of a lot of health issues, people who don't smoke also experience those issues. It's impossible to connect it.

Furthermore, if we're going to go down that road than obese people (who aren't obese or fat due to a thyroid issue) should be denied healthcare for any obesity-related health issue.

People who drink alcohol should be denied healthcare for any thing that can be remotely attributed to alcohol consumption.

We could go on and on. There are all kinds of things that are bad for your health. We don't want to go down that road.

I hear ya OP. I live in a free standing house next to a smoker and sometimes I smell smoke in my house when all the windows and doors are closed. And the guy has really loud dogs that bark outside. Once I asked him if for one day he could walk the poor dogs instead of leaving them in the yard to bark. He said, "They bark on my property". Typical conservative white trash asshole. Thinks because something occurs on his property that it's OK to bother neighbors. What a dumbass. Sound and smoke travel fuck face! One day I'm going to take my liberal shotgun and blow that cigarette right off his lips. How's that for a snowflake.

So one liberal asshole and one conservative asshole talking to each other, what happens? We get smoking gun.

I grew up w/a chain smoking parent & our home was ALWAYS filled w/smoke.
It was literally like living in a chimney every single day.

Plus it was distressing to see my Mother's hacking cough + deal w/seeing her age prematurely due to this vice.

I personally made it a choice during childhood never to even try to puff on a cigarette for fear of becoming addicted and suffering like my Mom suffered.

And I have never wavered from this.
At 48, I think smoking is the most idiotic decision one can make.

Aside from voting for Trump.....

I'm the PP. good one. Hey I'm a former smoker and I remember when all of the anti smoking stuff started so I actually kind of feel bad for smokers sometimes. However, in general if I knew that I was bothering my neighbors I would be embarrassed and try to do something about it, whether it was dogs, smoking, etc. the conservative asshole living next to me obviously just thinks that he has carte Blanche to do what he wants even if it affects others. That seems to be somewhat of a common thread amongst those who think freedom means freedom to annoy the Shit out of their neighbors. That's just not cool.

Just got back from Paris. So many young people in France were smoking there. Gross

Anonymous wrote:I grew up with cigarette smoke. Actually worse - my father smoked cigars. As I got older, I found that almost everyone at work smoked. If I complained, I was viewed as a whiner. Eventually, cigarette smoke was banned in public buildings, but lots of people still smoked. Eventually, I started to have a hard time breathing, and would routinely lose my voice around cigarette smoke. Again, this was viewed as my problem. Cigarette smoke is more than a nuisance for a lot of us. In my experience, smokers are some of the most selfish people that I've ever met. Thank God most people don't smoke anymore (at least around here).

I don't understand this sentiment. I don't smoke, never have but I don't villainize people who do. Its their vice. They don't have to take you into consideration to partake in it. If they are in a public space where smoking is allowed and you don't like it ... walk away.

+1

Unless someone is smoking on your property or in an area where it is prohibited, you need to suck it up & go somewhere else if it bothers you that much.

FWIW, all of the smokers I know go out of their way not to smoke near children & will go somewhere else to smoke if someone asks them to or even appears bothered by the smoke.
When smoking in public, most even try their best find a designated smoking area or, failing that, someplace where the smoke is less likely to breathed in by other people. Maybe the first PP's attitude is what leads people not to GAF whether or not theI r smoke bothers her.

You realize the air has no boundary lines right? It is like noise pollution. People aren't allowed to play music as loud as they want to on their own property because it does have an affect on neighboring property. Smoking does too. It is a legal nuisance -- worse, since second hand smoke can kill, it is an assault. Just a matter of time before the common law catches up on this issue.

Not a smoker, but just wondering -- did people feel like you in the 1930s, when many people smoked, indoors and with knowing thought about health? Were their groups of people claiming they couldn't breathe if they even caught a whiff of smoke on someone else's clothes? Did people pity the poor children of smokers?

And where were your guests supposed to dispose if the makeshift ashtrays? They couldn't bring them in your house.

This thread makes me WANT to start smoking, just to irritate the petty tyrants out there.

You people are insane. Absolutely bat-shit crazy.

Someone smoking outside is making the INSIDE of your house stink?

You people are nuts.

+1. I am very infrequent smoker after being a regular smoker. If I want to have one cigarette a week on my back porch after my kids have gone to bed then I'm sure as hell not going to feel bad about it. I put up with my neighbors likely having guns, other moms drinking themselves into wine stupors every night, people eating themselves to diabetes via big macs. Everyone has a vice get the eff over yourself. It's a free country for better or for worse!
