Did your high school have a student smoking section?

Greenwich High School, CT - class of 86

The smoking section was "outside"

but the teachers were not allowed to smoke where they could be seen...

I don't know what the rules are there today.

I miss those days. Sneaking cigarettes and some beers was just about the worst thing anyone did where I was from. Barely any pot, no hard drugs, no pills. A lot of parents kind of turned a blind eye to their kids smoking. I can't imagine that happening today. Smoking culture was so different in the 90s though...you could still smoke everywhere even inside the Tysons Corner mall!

Yes, I was a girl at high school 1977-1983 in the UK. We had a smokers corner. I was already smoking when I started high school age 11 and there was a lot of us that age on our first day smoking with the older kids. As the year went on more and more of our year started lol. It was a deprived area and I reckon over half the kids at our school smoked. We’d go through 3 or 4 cigs in one break and spend all dinner time smoking. Lessons lasted 35 mins and we was absolutely gagging for a cig after lessons lol. I was easy going through 40-50 a day when I was 11, I smoked openly everywhere and at home

No, NJ in 1989.

Yes, NJ in 1989. It was out back by the fence separating school property from the surrounding neighborhood.

Suburban Pittsburgh HS, class of 1992. I still remember the all school assembly where they told us the state was shutting all student smoking lounges down and warned us not to smoke in the bathroom. That happened sophomore year so 89-90.

I also remember the cross county captain lighting a cigarette post race once to “keep the weight down.” Wild times.

I graduated from HS in Michigan in 2000. My freshman year there was a smoking room inside the high school. After that, it became the attendance office.

Yes, 76-79 in Tampa, Florida.

Student smoking area was in a section of the courtyard.

They smoked outside in the back of the school. Separate from teachers, who smoked in the teachers lounge. Indoor smoking was still prevalent back then.

+1 except that I was at Oakland Mills (graduated in '86).

Up until 1990, I was working in offices where lots of people freely smoked at their desks.

WLHS early 80's (hot as hades) . I forgot about the permission slips! That's also where the undercover cops hung to catch drug users.

Yes, I graduated in 1989 and there was definitely one my sophomore year. They got rid of it either junior or senior year. Can’t remember. This was in northern california.

No student smoking area in my Virgin high school. I graduated in 1984. Almost no one smoked anyway even though I came from the birthplace of the tobacco industry.
