Why do men remarry younger women?

Anonymous
I can't speak to this trend because I have only seen the opposite in real life. I have three female friends who married younger men, all after 35. Each other has been repeatedly asked, by seemingly well-meaning people: "why did you marry a younger man?"

Their answers have been consistently the same: because they loved each other.

Look at yourself from a guy's perspective. "Wow, what a hardass. She seems seem difficult to impress. Let me see if I have any luck with a different age group that is also hotter."

Read the "Low Sex Drive Partner" thread. This is a telationship killer and it simply does not happen with young women.

Of course it does, it depends entirely how much the young woman in question gets stressed by the marriage. Give her a couple of young kids, a full-time job, a house to maintain, some financial worries, too much housework, and you'll see how your hot sex blows out of the window, along with her complexion and sweet nature.

This is so, so true! It absolutely does happen with young women. The low sex drive has nothing to do with age (actually women's sex drive increases in their 40s, so ridiculous to say otherwise), and everything to do with the monotony of having the same partner.

I agree. I have the same number of friends who married way older men (more than 10 years) as friends who married younger men (most 2-5 years younger).

" According to the 2013 census, nearly 60 percent of heterosexual married couples are within two to three years of each other; a union separated by 15 years, like the one between Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook, comes up only 1.6 percent of the time, and some of Emma Stone's recent screen romances with men who exceeded her age by 20 years are reflected by a mere one percent of actual couples. "

The times they are a changin'.

Men don’t have the advantage dating. Women will always have the ability to date older - a 20 year old woman can date a 35 year old just as easily as a 50 year old woman can date a 65 year old man. They may chose older because of the man’s higher social position or his wealth but will remain physically attracted to someone their age or younger, obviously.

I know a woman who is 41 and recently married a 30 years old man. She looks much older than him obviously but the issue is her DH is still very immature. Ironically she divorced a man who was her age precisely because he was immature among other reasons. And now she is dealing with a much more immature man. But this time around she has the upper hand because she is more successful and she she has more money. I think some women think that being the more successful one in a relationship may give them the upper hand as far as controlling the relationship in a way that they want. And for an older woman this is much easier to achieve with a younger man.

They want someone who will be impressed by them, not necessarily to dominate them, just to feel better about themselves" someone who will give them a positive image about themselves as they are getting a tiny bit closer to the grave...

Women their age would tend to look at them with more irony/distance" that s also why men often elope with women who are not socially their "equal" (the personal assistant for ex.), same principle: they get the adoring ego boosting eyes they haven't been getting at home for years anymore...

No way. I fell in love with a blue collar man ten years my junior and give him the googly eyes all the freaking time.

It's not lost on me that they got together when she was 29 - the same age I got married. He managed to find a person with his same egotistical, not mature personality. Bonus - she's willing to be a babysitter/ mom to our daughter so again, he can do whatever he wants to do, except be around for our daughter.

History repeating itself. Interesting to watch from the outside this time.

My ex is with someone 10 years younger than me; that's 13 younger than him. I met him when I was 26 and he was 29; she was 30 and he was 43. A lot of what you're saying about maturity is true for him too.

I met someone 5 years older than me.
