Health and Medicine
The poster brings up real good points. It is more you who are "batshit crazy". You really need to check your ego. |
You, on the other hand, sound delightful. You realize you aren't just calling me "sick, perverse, abusive, disgusting, horrific." You're talking about some of your friends, a lot of your neighbors, most followers of certain major religions, and most doctors and hospitals. I hope you tell your friends who circumcise the same thing you wrote here. Being mean anonymously means you're mean. You don't get a pass on saying terrible things just because you don't sign your name. That's who you are. Congratulations. |
We force non-consenting infants to receive vaccines. We force non-consenting infants to go home with us, suck our breasts, and wear clothes. These poor non-consenting infants! The horror! There is no study that can definitively state if circumcision decreases or increases sexual pleasure. Circumcision has not stopped men from enjoying sex for thousands of years. To compare it to female genital mutilation is crazy, because it is well known that it does decrease sexual pleasure in a woman (and also, it's done for ha purpose, so a woman does no cheat). It is done to infant boys as a health reason (albeit incredible small), and because it is a cultural norm here (although not circumcising is also culturally acceptable and a norm as well). |
If cut my daughters prepuce would you not think that it was sick, perverse or abusive? Or is it just fine if it's a girl? Because it's just "skin" and it "looks better"? Or there are "health benefits"? Please tell me that you think that it's okay to cut off part of a newborn babies genitals? And then tell me that you genuinely don't think that it's inhumane to mutilate your newborn baby? |
You forced your infant to eat? To be warm? Weird. |
You are misunderstanding the reality of female circumcision. Read this: http://blog.practicalethics.ox.ac.uk/2014/02/female-genital-mutilation-and-male-circumcision-time-to-confront-the-double-standard/ It's from the University of Oxford and a very thorough discussion of the two practices. |
| I was born at D.C. General, and was told that they did not offer circumcisions in the 80's. I guess ppl had more important things to do, like finding me a home after taking me from my heroin addict of a mother. |
So if your neighbor was branding their newborn child with a hot iron, cutting off her eyelid or finger, beating her, or permanently disfiguring some part of her body (genitals or elsewhere) it would be "unhinged" for you to speak up? You should just go and read a book or go for a jog? Ok, I see where your priorities lie. |
There are some people in this thread and elsewhere who can make reasoned, well-written arguments against circumcision. Let them do it. You only hurt your cause. |
| We circumcised DS, after much thought. We are white, educated, and live in DC. When I mentioned our stress over the issue to my white, educated friend in Arlington, she was shocked and did know anyone in her circle who had even considered not doing it. I do think the rates are changing but if its not for religious or race reasons, its only going down in ultra liberal urban areas. For now, at least. |
So you are unable to tell me that you think it's okay to cut foreskin (prepuce) off a baby girl then? It's the exact same thing, FYI, it's the skin that covers the clitoris. If you don't understand the comparison read this: http://blog.practicalethics.ox.ac.uk/2014/02/female-genital-mutilation-and-male-circumcision-time-to-confront-the-double-standard/ |
Well, except that the OP started this thread by getting all up in the business of people who choose not to circ. There's batshit crazy on both sides of this. I'm on the side of thinking my son was born perfect, and why mess with that? Certainly there could be complications from being uncircumcised, as there can be complications from circumcision. I know 2 parents who have had to have their sons' circumcisions revised. |
| They do. They just aren't as strident about their agenda as anti-circ'ers. Personally, I think either route is fine and people should just do what they believe is right for own sons. Zealots are so annoying. |
Very uncommon, you must have had to search them out. There are many things that we intervene, we cut the cord, do you think we should leave it on because they were born like that? Should we not wash them? Just cause the child comes out a certain way doesn't mean we should just not do anything. Do you let your child search for his own food? |
I didn't - both are colleagues that I talk to because we have kids roughly the same age. Both revisions went fine but caused the parents a lot of stress. There are risks to any surgery, and the only way to eliminate those risks is to not have the surgery. In this case, the surgery is cosmetic, so the risks do not seem worth it. Again, you're sounding crazy. Feeding an infant =/= cutting off a body part. |
