Because men may either buy pies or make pies, but women must make pies. |
(This was a joke because casserole = hotdish. Or at least I assume that it was a joke.) |

I have never hosted a pot luck, but I find all the potluck hating to be sad. I always aspire to host a dinner party, but the thought of cooking all those food for lots of people is too overwhelming. It's bad enough to have to do it for thanksgiving. I love the idea of pollocks--that you can have the dinner party where everyone shares the prep work do OT is not overwhelming for any one person. So sad that so many people think that's tacky.
And it does make me a little sad when all the parents bring packaged cookies to the preschool party potlucks. Like not a single one of us can throw together some house cooloes pr a banana bread? What are our children learning about where food ces from? But Lady who brings bananas, I would appreciate you (so long as they weren't all mushy.) |
| PSA Re: store bought cookies, etc at school functions - Some of us realize there will be kids there with food allergies who can't eat anything unless they know its peanut free. |
Ewwwwww this is the most revolting menu. What is layered salad? What is your bmi, poster? This is really unhealthy gross food. |
OMG. Where are you from! |
I'm not the PP, but where do you live? Crockpot cheesy dip, seven-layer salad, and peanut butter pie are potluck staples right here in the parts of Maryland close to DC. (I love the autocorrect "confect angry sugar".) |
Not OP, but this is the type of thing my friends and I make for potlucks as well. Obviously it's not everyday food, but what are parties for if not eating the sinfully good foods you don't get otherwise. Also, not that it's actually anyone's business (really, asking someone's weight, how rude) but my BMI hovers between 20.2 and 20.6. This is a seven layer salad: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/seven-layer-salad-10000001875432/. It's not my seven layer salad, the one I have been assigned to bring to family Christmases for the past several years, but it is the same idea.
This is basically the recipe I use for cheesy spinach dip (with a few modifications, and it never turns out as pretty when I make it) I've never made peanut butter pie (it sounds heavenly) but I have my mom's chocolate mousse pie recipe, which sounds similar. It looks something like this with a drizzle of raspberry or cherry flavoured sauce over the top.
Other tried and true easy potluck favourites with my family and friends include buffalo chicken dip, two-tone brownies, and Italian bread dip. Potlucks are fun, because at the end of the night you can have so many lovely new recipes (and know whose holiday desserts to avoid in the future ).

| How would you react if I brought a little crock pot with some Velveeta and Ro-tel? And a bag of tortilla chips, of course. |
| What is ro-tel? |
NO WAY. Are you for real? |
As I mentioned on another thread, I would hate it - I just cannot eat this without getting wicked heartburn. From what I've seen though everyone else would go crazy for it. |
Seriously, just shut it. I'm going to try making this pie this weekend! PP, do you think I could put a thin layer of thick chocolate sauce (like hot fudge) on the top and let it cool there, for a layered effect? |
I might propose. |
Right on! |
