Another way to put this is "you don't know what you are talking about." The group who is asking for schools to be closed is not demanding anything. The group has simply asked non-Muslims to join them in staying home from school on Eid al-Adha. If you don't agree with the group, send your kids to school that day. It is exactly because the group recognizes their small numbers that they have requested support from non-Muslims.

my jewish friends don't ask me to do things they do on their holidays, my christian friends don't ask me not to do things on their holidays, why push their things on anyone? just go do what you do and go about it.

Without using google, what day did this thing fall on last year?

Terrific. Then send your kids to school on Christmas. No, wait, school is closed on Christmas.

I would if it was open, christmas on dec 25th is a made up holiday. if you read the bible the true time of that was most llikely march.

Let's make a deal. I will agree with you that all 1.6 billion Muslims in the world are violent terrorists, if you will agree with me that all 151 million male people in the US (and particularly all 121 million white American male people) are mass shooters.

I would agree that this is a good analogy if somewhere out there there was some kind of a white male codex that said that all non-white or non-males are inferior and are to be converted or exterminated.

Yes, exactly. Your Christian friends don't have to ask you not to send your child to school on Christmas (a Christian holiday), because school is closed. How come asking people to keep their children home on Eid is "pushing their things" on you, but making people keep their children home on Christmas isn't?

Nobody is pushing you to do anything. Simply asking.

George Washington celebrated Christmas as did many others in the 1700's. Puritans were in New England.

Guess what happened here on Christmas Day?

Dec 25 has more meaning in the USA to those who care about this country. Real people lived here and struggled to make it what it is today. They all didn't just fly over and plop.

Wait, what?

Schools are closed on Christmas in honor of George Washington crossing the Delaware River on Christmas in 1776?

We should only celebrate holidays that the Puritans celebrated? (OK, no Christmas, then.)

You don't count as a real person if you arrived in the US by airplane?

People for whom Christmas is just another day (except that everything is closed) don't care about the US?

I'm so confused.

Christmas is a federal holiday.

That is why schools are closed.

Muslims were here before Washington was. As part of the slave trade. Talk about struggle.

Can we start celebrating all the Native American Holidays too...

Squanto's and Pocahontas's birthdays are a good start.

But actually MCPS does not close on all federal holidays. There is school on Columbus Day and on Veterans Day.

No, we committed genocide against them. No need for their holidays.

+1000!! Seriously...if you people are going to tell the Muslims to go back to their countries, then it's only fair to pack your own bags as well. Let's give the land back to the Native Americans and all go back to our ancestral countries.

Yes, they didn't fly over and plop because they didn't have airplanes back then. I believe they plopped over on their ships and proceeded to kill and convert the natives and use African slave labor to build up their new world. Admirable.

Jewish kids cannot go to school on Christmas. That is when they have their annual Chinese restaurant day
