It's "scary"? And they are making "demands"? "Their" are lunatics in every religion? Really? Is it "scary" that MCPS closes for Jewish holidays? Or is it just the "intolerate and cruel" Muslims who scare you?

It seems clear that there is a tremendous amount of bias against Muslims on display in this thread. Yuck.

(MCPS closes for Christian holidays too. Christians are so demanding!)

I'm trying to be polite. We realize their are lunatics in every race but radical views seem more mainstream in Caucasians and there have been some high profile incidents recently. The US often seems intolerate and cruel, mass shootings because of lax gun laws come to mind first. It's scary that such a small minority of white gun nuts would make demands on not enforcing gun control. I have many Buddhist friends and never has this come up.

See how ridiculous your statement sounds to others?

That's because according to the Hindu philosophy, we all are the parts of the Supreme soul (Paramatma). So regardless of what religion anyone follows and what name anyone calls their God/Gods, everyone is Hindu.

What exactly constitutes bias? Do statements of fact? Do citations to news reports? How about statistics?
And what is a person supposed to do to avoid this evil bias? Stop listening to the news? Stop thinking?

Yeap, when folks are disagreeing with your position, just claim bias and discrimination

Works every time, does not it?

how about bringing up violence in other countries and claiming that law abiding citizens of md who happen to share the same religion condone it.

Group asks staff, students to stay home, celebrate Eid al-Adha on Oct. 15

Now the Muslims want to have the schools closed. Next we will have the Asians with Tet and then some other group. Where is the end?

I'm out in California, and San Francisco schools, where a lot of Asians reside, do close for Lunar New Year. We've never closed for Jewish holidays because I don't believe they are in large numbers here. If there are a lot of Muslim in MoCo, then it makes sense for schools to close for the Muslims holidays. It's a practical, cultural, and respectful thing.

Huh...doesn't everyone know that Muslims are all one big monolithic mass? Why else are all of these intelligent, worldly people bringing in Iran and Iraq and Saudi Arabia ( ) and ALL of those other scary Muslim countries into a discussion about MoCo Muslims wanting Eid as an official school holiday? All Muslims in the entire world must be in on it! As well as every crime a Muslim or Muslim looking person (sorry Sikhs) ever commits or thinks of committing. Yeah yeah Creeping Sharia! Spread more panic and pandemonium, keep the people scared, they're easier to control that way

Another way to put this. 0.8% of the population demands holidays.

Another way to put this is "you don't know what you are talking about." The group who is asking for schools to be closed is not demanding anything. The group has simply asked non-Muslims to join them in staying home from school on Eid al-Adha. If you don't agree with the group, send your kids to school that day. It is exactly because the group recognizes their small numbers that they have requested support from non-Muslims.

Exactly. And the group isn't comprised of "all Muslims" in MoCo, either. We live here and don't care one way or the other if the school system shuts down for Eid.

Muslim violence is not limited to "other countries." Ever heard of the Boston bombers? How about Fort Hood slaughter?
I don't know why the PC crowd asks everyone else to part with common sense.

Because the only thing that asking MCPS to close for Eid has to do with the Boston Marathon bombing is that the people doing the asking, and the people doing the bombing, are both Muslims.

Let's make a deal. I will agree with you that all 1.6 billion Muslims in the world are violent terrorists, if you will agree with me that all 151 million male people in the US (and particularly all 121 million white American male people) are mass shooters.
