Middle School Magnet Test

No one is buying your story. Go away troll. And you are a liar. You have the inside story of what exactly? You wanted to portray that you were unaware of what this whole process was but another teacher encouraged your daughter. And then the story changed and it was because your daughter learned about some other student who got in. You are pathetic. Go and troll somewhere else.

And if you are a teacher I feel bad for the students who are taught by you. What a troll!

My daughter's friend got into Tk Pk. From there she asked her 5th grade teacher about it and with their encouragement, we started the process. We can't have both? How limited you must be with your brain power.

How am I being a troll? We were at Tk Pk. We arrived before 10 am; she was in the first round. no trolling her

why so angry? jealous b/c I really don't give a shit about the entire process? upset over the chance that your cherub may not get a slot? the humiliation for you!

And yes, I know the inside deal. I know about the selection process. My daughter won't get it, and that's fine. I'm glad she experienced the testing process and through it demonstrated she has the stamina to go through a rigorous assessment.

again - The message is this - that these magnets are for the parents . . . a bragfest

I
simply
do
no
care.

If she gets in, it's more of a hassle with transportation. If she doesn't our middle school is fantastic! not concerned, honeybun

Please do not feed the troll. She is just a very disturbed individual. She wants to gloat that many kids will not get in and that they will be disappointed. Which sane individual does that?

She wants us to believe that she has an inside knowledge of the system, yet her kid heard about it from someone else. Now she is saying that her kid won't get in. How does she know? Maybe there is no kid taking the magnet test.

The kids who have the greatest statistical advantage for the Takoma Park magnet are those who live in the TPMS boundary area because a certain number of magnet slots are reserved just for them, so the odds shift dramatically in their favor.

I know there is some quota for Clemente kid as well (There are 20 kids for each stream - so 40 kids in total), but I did not realize that they also had to take the same test.

God only knows. We asked casually and we got some equally casual replies and shoulder shrugging. I am just glad it is over.

I wish the results were instantaneous and so we could have used Saturday to rejoice/grieve and then get over it. Decided to completely ignore it and deal with stuff when it happens. Everyone has a backup plan, so its all good.

It is a crazy and cruel system. All kids who took the exam today are interested in the rigor that this program offers. So, why not offer it to them? Either at the center or at their home schools. If you have to cut costs then there are other places that the county can cut costs. To deny any of these kids the opportunity is such a waste of brain power.

+1 Why do parents have to fight to get an appropriately challenging education?
I am interested in hearing ideas about what can be done to strengthen middle schools throughout the county.

Does anyone know of an example in which parents have advocated for a more challenging class or coursework at a home middle school? I'd love to know of any examples, regardless of the outcome of the advocacy.

Back in the day, which was a few years ago now, at our elementary some parents got together and offered a geography class. Kids memorized the states, and at the end of a few months there was a geography bee with prizes.

DC aged out of that school, but they were planning to do countries/rivers/oceans the following year.

As I recall, the geography package was given to any interested kid, and kids had to do it on their own time. Not completely ideal, but it didn't take time out of the school day (which was key for winning school support), and at least kids who couldn't stay after school weren't disadvantaged either. The school administration supported it enthusiastically. They let us use the copy machines and a few of us parents put the geog packets together.

I think the test qualifies you to get your application essays read. I am assuming that based on how kids did in the test - they would cull the pool to 200 applicants. And then take a look at everything - test scores and application essays and teacher's recommendation.

I doubt that they get it down to 200 just on test scores.
