I agree. My SIL was adamant about choosing a name that wasn't popular and spent months analyzing name data. In the end she chose something really cringe-worthy for my poor neice. After a year, she admitted she regretted choosing that name -- it wasn't something she really loved nor did it have any special meaning. Seriously, it's not the end of the world if someone else has your child's name.

I love Olivia. I hope it's not getting too common although I've seen it on this thread.

Apparently it's one of the most popular names in the US, so you're too late in hoping it's not common. That said, I have NEVER met anyone named Olivia - child or adult - go figure!

Not sure where you live but there are soooooo many Olivias in Chevy Chase and Bethesda. My daughter is 3 and every girl we meet is Olivia, Sophia, or Amelia.

Agree. We're in Chevy Chase and I know several Olivias.

What's sad is that I can't tell if this is real or a joke.

My best friend has two girls named Isabella and Sophia. I don't know if I could ever do that. . .name my kids two of the most popular names for the past 5 years.

My Mother suggested Nina and I thought she was nuts. Now I see it's not so crazy and it's growing on me

Nina is so pretty and underused. I vote yes!

I was already vetoed I'm still adding it to my list, though!

So, Nina is now out completely! My husband is completely stuck on "Maya". So, regardless of what the people on this board think, I guess that's what we're going with! I find it hard to believe I'll talk him into anything else! Anyway, I feel like I know going in that Maya is popular. What if we go with something that we think isn't popular and then it is and I'm like "Ugh. I thought I avoided this." At least now I am prepared. Anyway, I do like the name and I got to name the first one!

Maya is very very popular. Especially is this area. Nina has a very simila ring to Maya, so I'm suprised your DH nixed it. I would try and convince him to go with Nina. And not to start a side discussion with this pp, but I also think Sasha is similar and less popular.

What about Mia (pronounced Mee-ah)? My neice (in Germany) named her daughter that and I thought it was nice. It's somewhat similar to Maya but I haven't heard it mentioned much on this forum as being popular around here.
