Joseph Duggar Arrested

I've known many parents who have done this. Yes, I see how it's a fire hazard for older children, but there are plenty of four year olds who still sleep in cribs. Aren't they fire hazards? If you've got an immature, impulsive crib-climber, then your safest option is to move them to a floor bed or toddler bed, baby-proof the room, and lock the door. Duh. I think I've even seen that suggested here on DCUM.

"False imprisonment of a child" should not mean locking your own very young children safely in their room at night. That's major government over reach. At MOST this should be a conversation with CPS, parenting classes, and some follow ups. Not an ARREST.

Yeah, it feels like massive government overreach to arrest her. He can rot in prison for the rest of his life, I don't give a shit.

The problem here is that the Duggars, including the wives, are insanely unpopular. The only Duggars with any fans are the older sisters who made a break and wear jeans/use birth control while still being religious zealots.

Yeah, massive religious overreach by the Duggars kicking off their fame. They seem to believe that an omnipotent deity is weird enough and cares enough to impose some pretty insane and extreme rules on their day-to-day life. Whackjobs.

There is no evidence that this is what they arrested her for. It's just internet speculation. All that's actually been shared are the charges: 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, 2nd degree and 4 counts false imprisonment, 2nd degree (these were the charges for both her and Joseph). I sincerely doubt Arkansas small town police are arresting people for turning their children's doorknobs around. This is unrelated to Joseph's FL charges.

It was in People magazine. It was because of the locks. We do have evidence.

A “source close to the family” is not evidence.

FOIA letters to Joe in prison. If you go to the next one you’ll see Anna’s. Something is not right with this family. Anna writes like a teen and clearly does not comprehend what her husband did

The locks might have been why they originally took them, but that doesn’t mean it’s why they kept them. We don’t know what marks were found on the kids bodies. We don’t know what the children told them.

Anna is a little too excited to send goodies to a man who admitted to a terrible crime.

Maybe but trying to put a positive spin on things. What was weirder to me was being able to compare it to her husband's incarceration. When Josh was . . .

Anonymous wrote:I've done some googling about locking kid's doors and most articles seem to center on it's a fire hazard. However, in standard houses, the lock is inside the room. Seems a toddler, or even an older kid, could lock the door from inside their room, and now if there is a fire, you can't easily access the kid in their room.

Switching the door knob so the lock is outside sounds like it keeps a young kid from roaming the house at night, falling down stairs, eating cat food, etc. And if there is an emergency, the parent can open the locked door by flipping the lock/knob from the outside and getting in.

Some people are imagining these are padlocks with keys elsewhere. Seriously, it's the simple lock that's probably on most of your kid's doors, just flipped around.

One night our security alarm was set off by a magnet falling and all of our kids slept through the blaring alarm. I realized if the smoke detectors had gone off, all my kids would have stayed asleep and it was up to us to wake them up.

I had an ODD teen and our house rule was no locked bedroom doors (shut was ok). One kept locking their door so we finally removed the door entirely. There was a bathroom attached, so plenty of privacy for dressing.

Anyway, I disagree that it's against the law to lock kid's bedroom doors to (IMO) keep them safe at night. Baby gates don't work for kids that are climbing monkeys.

Sure, you can set up motion detectors, but isn't it better if you have a wanderer, to just put them in a room where the only thing to do is sleep?

I know someone who switched the door locks for their wandering toddler and they have a potty and sippy cup of water inside the room.

Agree that it's a good law or don't--but apparently it is, in fact, the law in Arkansas.

"God has already forgiven you" - this right here is why I hate some kinds of Christianity. You can apparently do anything, and be forgiven.

It's a sick, amoral cop-out.

You didn’t include the beginning of the sentence. The entire sentence is “You have made some terrible decisions, but God has already forgiven you if you ask him… You are going to have to accept the situation at this point, and it is also fine to pray that God will have mercy on you, but you’re probably gonna face a major consequence for years to come… in jails and prison.”

The family is despicable but that is how Christianity works. No one is too evil to be saved because it is a religion founded in mercy and forgiveness.

That reads to me like JB is not going to mount a big defense like he did like Josh. He’s going to tell Jospeh to take a plea.

Its really unsafe to lock kids doors at night, what if there is a fire?

The environment that the Duggars raised their kids in was very toxic.
They had the money and the resources to hire nannies and household cleaners, but did not do so.
Instead they buddied up their kids in pairs making the older kids into teen parents.
I am not totally against teen parents because with the right supports there are occasional success stories, but that is very different to making a sibling care full time for a child that is not his/hers.

When the show started my first thought was that there was more going on behind the scenes.

Parents should not be pregnant every year, teenagers should be doing school and hobbies or part time employment. Not full time parenting along with part time religion and occasional home schooling by obviously dumb parents

I am sure more of the family members are messed up, but that has just not reached the media.

The sad part is that Anna Duggar could have at least gotten her tubes tied when her husbands scandal broke out the first time.
Instead she made more babies because that is what you do to save a marriage
