That being said, I think it's coming. The other day Trump was talking about 15% growth in an interview with Kudlow. It sounded insane at the time, but I connected the dots to that is the same growth rate the Anthropic CEO claims AI will be able to produce.

Both of these people are self-promoting liars. Start thinking critically about the things these people are writing and saying. It all falls apart under the most rudimentary inspection.

AI is really useful, but what if we are being told that a basic software advance will fundamentally change humanity? What if the emperor has no clothes? It will be a catastrophe for these mega companies if that comes out because their entire profit model is hinged on endless growth.

You know what, I am not a programmer or developer but entire sectors of the stock market were getting blown up this week due to AI take over fears. I think the concern is likely to be credible given the amount of money involved and definitely gets my attention.

Can I ask what you are coding for? To do thinking tasks for people? To replace doctors? To replace lawyers? To make research and writing easier? What exactly do you want the code to do and most importantly why?to what end?

Why can’t “tech” people ever give specifics?

Teachers are merely doing attendance and chaperone work organizing papers, this is a big change i am not sure they are ready for.
quite the opposite. Teachers are needed as motivators and curators of learning topics. Otherwise society has dumb kids who think they don’t need to know anything bc they can ask ChatGPT. Knowledge is power.

It's growth for the elites/tech bros/Epstein class. They'll hoard 95% of the wealth while the rest of us fight for the remaining 5% and punish us hard when we demand more or speak out against them.

And despite being created with AI help, it’s poorly written.

I didn't think it was poorly written at all. I'm a professional writer. Actually, I think it was very well written and explained these things in a very accessible way for a lay audience.

Np. I’m a writer too, and agree it was well written. But that’s also why I think it seemed like AI helped write it. To smooth. I happen to agree with his thesis too, though I’m hoping it turns out to be a false prophecy.

Listen, if AI can do your job as well or better than you, it doesn’t mean AI is amazing - it means you’re not that good at your job.

DP here and you are totally full of shit. AI can do things that humans cannot. That’s literally the entire point. Not being able to compete with AI is not a personal failure, it’s the intentional and inevitable outcome of wealthy business owners valuing $$ over humanity. None of this is the fault of the average worker and you are way out of line to even suggest such a foolish thing.

Like what? Provide some actual evidence to back up this assertion.

I don’t believe the timeframe.

I spent a good 10 frustrating minutes with a delta chat bot yesterday. Was relieved to finally get passed to a real person.

AI is great for data, repetitive tasks and looking things up on the internet.

Trying to remain relevant in an overhyped industry. AI will be transformative in many areas and sure Python and R coders will be displaced.

Real job opportunities will be in fixing Elon’s robots when they break down.

There won't be any robots. No one is going to make a servo motor that can equal the human hand.

We will be the robots, or as Doctorow says 'reverse centaurs'.

Yes the idea is that we follow their instructions like a human body extensionof an AI. Here's a short story called Manna that describes it pretty well.

That's ludicrous. Tech people work in public more than any other knowledge workers. If you're interested in what's happening in terms of research, the legal industry, the medical industry, or anything else, you can find tons out there on exactly what's being done and how fast it's progressing on benchmarks. It doesn't matter what specific product the last poster was working on.

People in this thread are asking really basic questions that can't be answered other than "you can find tons out there." Tons of WHAT?? What did AI build without human direction?

Here's a funny/scary one. An AI wrote a blog article falsely accusing a human of malfeasance.

https://theshamblog.com/an-ai-agent-published-a-hit-piece-on-me/

The human target says this is the first wave of what could become AI blackmail. So looks like blackmailers are going to be replaced too.

But how dumb are the coders that they can’t code that out?
