Well it is clear that despite having $1 mil to burn on Holton, you have zero ability to understand economics, so I fully believe that Holton parents are conned into believing that Holton gives their kids a leg up in college admissions. |
magnet schools have humanities programs. But yes if what you are trying to say is that magnet programs are more academically rigorous with superior kids to an average private - fully agree. |
This is so deeply incoherent, and you have yet to provide ANY evidence of your claim. |
It’s not what I’m trying to say. But thanks. |
Kids at magnet schools generally don’t need the handholding that private school kids need, so yeah not fair. Compare a mostly white, average public school to a private school. |
Oh come on. This is such bull. |
| Sorry, but I do not see any difference in success ratio between my friends, whose kids went to Sidwell and whose kids went to good public schools....the Sidwell kids did not go to better colleges, nor did they get better jobs. |
I fear the magnet won't exist in Montgomery County by the time my kid gets to high school. I agree tgat they are academically rigorous but it also looks like MCPS may dismantle them. |
Why? What makes you thnk so? |
Clearly you must know enough of these kids to be able to give us the unvarnished truth about public vs private school college admissions and job prospects. Thank you for your invaluable insight. |
Maybe that's true for the 2 Sidwell kids you know. As soon as you enter Sidwell, your chances of success skyrocket. |
Correct. If you have an average or below average kid that needs hand-holding, they won’t get into a public magnet and you can buy them hand-holding at a private. The only question for you is whether that is worth $1mil. |
This. I know a family with 4 kids who went through Sidwell and none are that impressive. Meanwhile my public school sibs and friends have done much better. I realize this is comparing different generations but truly nothing about Sidwell seemed to create any remarkable result in the long term that couldn’t have been achieved by sending those kids to MCPS. |
That’s just a laughable assertion. A high IQ and motivated kid with high SES parents is going to do just as well if not better if they go to BCC or Whitman as compared to Sidwell. |
| Fascinated again to see parents of kids that go to public schools hate on parents of kids that go to private. All kids will have a chance to succeed. Relax. But don't judge us for spending $ for a good K-12 experience along the way... |
