OP here. Wow, this thread took off more than I thought it would, lol. Like I said in an earlier post, it’s pretty much what I expected.
I will be taking it down the flag, in part because of how people feel/react to it, but also because it’s looking old and it does not have a light on it, and I agree that flags should be flown properly if possible. If we were to fly an American flag there we would need to get a brand new one and figure out lighting for it, and given that I’m on the fence about having one anyway I’m not going to do all of that. We will be taking down the “no trespassing sign”, but people gave me a lot to think about— we are on a big wooded lot and I have seen some neighbors with no hunting signs and some with no trespassing signs, so I’m gonna look into whether or not it actually might make sense to have some kind of sign like that up here. I lived in Falls Church before moving out here, so I am not used to being in a wooded rural area and wasn’t familiar with the practical reasons that signs such as that might be up. But thank you to everyone for your thoughts. I appreciate it. I do want to put something up so that people can locate our driveway (people not being able to find us has been a huge problem and the flag helped a lot), so maybe I’ll be able to figure out one of those seasonal flags or something, but they’re not going to go onto the flagpole that is there now because those kind of flags don’t fit on that kind of flag pole. Anyone with any sense has ‘ no trespassing’ signs out in rural areas. Someone gets injured on your property and you can be held liable.
Anyone with any integrity knows the American flag can represent individuals across multiple political ideologies. |

I think the American flag is beautiful. If you have it displaying all the time then my impression is that you might be a bit lazy; our old neighbor followed the steps daily and she was in her 70s daily until she passed away.

I feel that way now but everything changed after 911. Before 911 a lot of us flew flags. After 911 the right took control of the flag and it became a signal of a rwnj. Even wearing a flag lapel pin indicated a right leaning person. |

People are letting Trump and MAGA take over our flag. Every non Trumper, non MAGA who eschews the flag does that.

| As someone who has a larger wooded property, the no trespassing signs should go at back and side perimeters, not at your front drive. It smacks of gun owner and a bit rude, and serves no purpose - trespassers aren’t going to come up your drive. In some states, purple paint serves as a no trespassing signs, legally enforceable, and much cheaper! |
